And that’s the problem with schools. Younger children cannot be relied upon to keep their distances. The so-called specialist even denying that young ones might keep touching each other. She can’t have been in a reception or year 1 class obviously. It needs to be properly thought out, rather than rushing back too soon.
What astonishes me is how many people in this country (and the US) seem to be content with committing suicide on a national basis, rather than trying to get behind an effort to minimise deaths. We've seen successful containment in other countries and yet our government just seem hell-bent on opening the economy screw the consequences.
If we get this wrong and deaths do not come down to manageable levels, by the time we get to the autumn or winter there will be even more casualties. All we have to do is look at history to see how an out of control virus comes back in waves. The Spanish Flu is the perfect example.
The economy won't function properly until the population have the confidence to go out and not get infected.
Before a vaccine or antivirals that are found, the only way that will happen if we finally get our test, track and trace act together. We don't seem to be anywhere near that stage yet. The big difference between now and 100 years ago, is technology has evolved exponentially. At least that gives some hope that we will get a vaccine in record time.

Pro footballers are a case in point - these cnuts have supposedly been training at home with club issued training programmes, are back in team training since last week, and now the fat Geordie still says that they wont be fit enough to play for another 6 weeks

Agree with that Tux but schools just like everything and everyone else will just have to adapt. My own daughter is due to start school in September and there’s fuck all clarity as to what’s going to happen.
For me schools will have to split classes, some kids go in the morning others in the afternoon or half the class one day and the other half the next. We need to stop feeling sorry for ourselves now, look after the vulnerable and the rest of us need to get out there and continue to try and keep the economy alive by social distancing the absolute shit out of it until a vaccine is found.
I’ve been lucky enough to continue working right throughout this and actually at my place of work too not from home. It’s now time for as many other people as possible to do the same.

All the Arsenal players I follow on social media have been firing up videos of rigorous training sessions since lockdown began. Now I know someone could post a 3 minute video giving the impression of doing a massive workout and then shut off the phone and go
back to the couch to knock one out to the BangBabes but I reckon they’ve all being doing good work to maintain fitness levels.
The only guy I haven’t seen working out is Pepe. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him rock up to training once it resumes weighing 20 stone

Could not agree more. Too many pissing around while the tax payer pays their wages. We all know the drill now staying 2m away from people ought to do the trick hiding away in the house is taking it too far. Either work from home or open up with social distancing it's simple. If you can't mange that and adapt then tough that's business. You live and die (for want of a better phrase) through ability to adapt to an ever changing world

No it isn't simple. You're relying on people to follow rules with social distancing and unfortunately some people really don't give a f**k (just go to any supermarket to see this).
If you take the example of a pub. You lose trade through less tables and you will most likely have to do table service. It is also inevitable that once people have had a few drinks, all social distancing will disappear.
It would cost more in extra staff and trying to police it with security than most independent pubs can afford.
No doubt the world as it currently is is a mess, but it is a mess where people should all pull together to work things out instead of one group sitting back and waiting for everyone else to do what is necessary - if this was a virus that we knew would last for x number of weeks or months then I would understand (maybe) people's reluctance to put themselves out there, but this virus could be around for years so at what stage are they gonna get back to living life ? It is an excuse for some to stay at home on full pay, and especially those working in the public sector

There is not one civil or public servant sitting at home on their arse doing nothing. They are either working from home or (like me and my exhausted burnt out team) putting their health and their family's health at risk by travelling into work every day. That's of course not to say there aren't a few teachers that have been doing fuck all but that is a minority of public servants and it is a shit thing to tar every public servant with the same brush tbh.
I will tell you who HAS been sitting at home on their arses doing nothing though. 600 thousand private sector workers - I know that because my team are one of many reassigned to help put those people on COVID pandemic payments. While those 600k people are being paid to stay at home public sector workers in DEASP, Revenue, HSE, Public Health Ireland etc etc have been keeping the country going and in my team's case paying the private sector so we don't have riots on the streets or a huge pandemic death toll.
Did you know DEASP had to close one of its Dublin offices (Swords Intreo) because a number of staff caught the virus by turning up to work to help people? Probably not, because that doesn't suit the government and media agenda to keep the public and private sectors at each others throats.
And here's the best bit. Do you know how they'll thank us for all this work when the coming recession rolls in? Yep they'll cut our pay again.

Ok I will admit that I made a sweeping statement labelling all public sector workers when I meant to focus in on teachers and SOME others - I have 2 kids in secondary school and let me tell you that the interaction and assignments from their teachers is patchy at best. My eldest is in 5th year and is getting grinds from a local teacher that doesn't work in his school, and he has had more work and teaching from that teacher in the past 2 months than he has his own teachers - he has even done 4 or 5 online zoom classes with her class from the school that she teaches in, and I'm sure those students must be wondering wtf is going on that he is involved
Re the private sector I will agree with you to some degree but again your statement is too sweeping and all inclusive to be fair - there are a lot of people down here going out of their minds waiting to get back to work (what sane man would want to be trapped with her indoors for weeks on end ? ). There are of course some who will look at the benefits of not having to work and getting paid a decent wedge regardless, and will be in no hurry to get back, but that is where the government needs to start winding down on those payments as they open up the country again

Like any industry in the current situation, there may well be some who are taking advantage, but most teachers are highly caring, vocational people, otherwise why would they have chosen a career in teaching?
