The Mesut Özil Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The Mesut Özil Thread

Post by Red Gunner »

I know we haven't signed the man yet but I'm going to tempt fate and start a thread on him. If we fail to sign him, please don't ban me

Now I'm wondering where will Ozil play? This is the formation we could play against weaker teams with deep defences:

Image

In this formation, both Ozil and Cazorla will be able to play centrally. This formation is similar to Barcelona's. Instead of Dani Alves running down the right flank, we'll have Gibbs on the left flank. Sagna will have to be more defensive and when we're defensively short, he'll have to come into the middle of the defence. Flamini will sometimes drop into the LB position, the same way Busquets sometimes drops into Barcelona's defence.

If Walcott struggles against deeper defences, we could play Podolski instead:

We'd also play a similar formation against bigger teams:

So what does everyone else think?

I would play him like this, but Cazorla and Wilshere as CM and Podolski or someone new on left wing.

This is the signing that will be seen as Arsenal as a genuine elite European club. How often do Madrid sell a player of Ozil's age and quality? Not very is the answer. From today we are now a buying club, not a selling club nor a club that shops at Tesco... we now shop at Harrods.

Right, any guesses where le Arseole is going to play him? The "Podolski position" perhaps on the left of the front 3?
