So you agree that it's our financial strength that has enabled us to maintain a position in the top four while at the same time building new state of the art training facilities and a new revenue enhancing stadium. But you don't think that Wenger is largely responsible for the financial health of ...

Our spending should place us 3rd or 4th and we've kept coming 3rd or 4th since 2006

So we have achieved what we should have expected to achieve then? ManU and Chelsea spent more than us so we should expect them to be above us! What you can say then is that at least Wenger hasn't messed up ...

Wenger’s Myths Exposed (3/1)

You are changing the point being made which was that our achievements in the period that the article covered were not significantly better than Villa's or Everton based on money spent. The fact is that we came within 4 points of the champions in that period and neither club came closer than 9 points ...

Wenger’s Myths Exposed (3/1)

The point he's making, made simply without fuss, is that it's not a huge achievement to have stayed ahead of Villa and Everton (and Tottenham for that matter) given our wage bill compared to theirs. Someone quoted Why England Lose, what that tells us (and is obvious anyway) is that success is ...

Re: Wenger’s Myths Exposed (3/1)

The specific point I made about the spending of Villa and Everton in my first post is corroborated in this piece taken from the Telegraph's appraisal of the Deloitte review of 2006/2007 figures:

Wenger’s Myths Exposed (3/1)

Sandy I don't see that your post changes my rationale that your argument is ill considered and ill informed.

The accounts for 2009 were available on the club website some time before your first article but in any case that's irrelevant to the argument. Audited accounts don't show direct expenditure ...

Wenger’s Myths Exposed (3/1)

The disingenuous part of his long diatribe is that the author invents his own myths and poses them as Wengers. The argument is contructed around a 5 year period in which ManU has spent on average (based on the authors own figures culled from guesstimates by others) some £20m each year on transfers ...

Wenger’s return – pound for pound - compares badly with Moye

Surely for this analysis of spending over 5 years you should also indicate the finishing position for more than 3 years? Arsenals spending for the 3 years performances analysed is £301.4m enhanced by revenues from the new stadium. Everton and Villa's wage budgets in at least two of those 3 years ...

Wenger’s return – pound for pound - compares badly with Moye

As the article says - you can use numbers to prove anything. What does this prove? That we should have spent £100mn more to achieve what ManU has done? Why not include Chelsea's figures unless they make the whole analysis look rather foolish? And they will! Everton haven't managed to get better ...

I thnk your maths has let you down. The increase in the share price during Wenger's reign is 2000% not 20%.

You are asking for changes in the Q&A format just to accomodate those few people without enough common courtesy to present their questions in a way that would solicit a courteous response ...

I don't think you can call one match a trend - particularly at this stage of a campaign. Even if it is true that this is the first match at the Emirates in 2 years to go on general sale. That I very much doubt.

It's also worth noting, though salaries paid to players are totally disconnected from ...

usual thread starter… I think I know what the reaction to this may be. Posted in the interests of debate.

If there is a narrow, parochial attitude amongst Arsenal supporters it is demonstrated by the author of this article. Firstly, who on ...

Thanks for the explanation. I must confess that I haven't read your views on Dein so my post was without any background knowledge of your position. I'll make a point of buying the 'Gooner' starting tomorrow to complete my education. I wasn't at the meeting but have spoken to someone who was who ...

AGM Shambles

The guy that interrupted the AGM at the end to demand Deins deification was Alex Fynn. Along with a lot of other work connected with football he has written a few books on the subject. A couple of these were in conjunction with a Kevin Whitcher. If this is the same Kevin Whitcher as the writer of ...
