Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
With every passing day, there seems to be another legend or former player that spouts utter nonsense about Wenger, slates the fans, and tarnishes the good memories I have of them in the process.
So, I thought it would be useful to have a separate *word censored* list that's reserved for former players who've royally fucked you off with their comments.
I'd suggest the following for starters, primarily for their pro-Wenger stance and their unncessary knocking of the fans:
- Ian Wright
- Martin Keown
- Nigel Winterburn
- John Hartson
- Patrick Vieira
Don't get me wrong, I'll always respect these guys for all they did for the club, but having a pop at fans has left me with mixed feelings towards them. Henry can probably be added to the list, but at least he's started talking more sense in the last month or so.

Keown.
I can't stand to listen to his contradictory propaganda.
"The players have let the manager down".
He's been trotting this out for fucking years now.

Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
Wrighty went down in my estimation massively before the game on Saturday with his bullshit answer to a very straight "so is it time for change?" question. Some weasel words about "it could be interesting in the Summer if West Ham overhauled Arsenal and they didn't qualify for the CL"
Completely out of touch with the fans and not something I thought I would ever say about him.
In other words mate....if he gets 4th again we should all shut the fuck up and carry on paying the highest ticket prices in Europe.....but 5th and we might be allowed to question

Don't really understand why it matters what ex-players that have worked under him think about the situation?
Most pundits think he should stay, even those that haven't played under him. Only us supporters will make him decide to leave, and I think, those ex-players have said that at some point in the last 6 months.

Oh the irony on the gooner forum, you lot should be on the *word censored* thread, I bet you all blame your parents that you were born under wengers reign tooVoiceOfReason wrote:With every passing day, there seems to be another legend or former player that spouts utter nonsense about Wenger, slates the fans, and tarnishes the good memories I have of them in the process.

maybe start a thread about that

Could merge it with the joke thread and you never know, this place might explode before Friday.

Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
I think that this is largely because of their current employment or potentially any future employment/role with the club. If you had a chance at something in the future to bring in some money from Arsenal, you probably wouldn't be having a pop at Wenger, Gazidis or Kroenke.Nos89 wrote:Don't really understand why it matters what ex-players that have worked under him think about the situation?

Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
Maybe I am being blinkered, but I don't think that PV4 really said much defending le cock - henry on the other hand.......
I would agree with steve o's suggestion that wright's offence is the worst of them all - this is a guy that has always portrayed himself as one of the fans/common man, so to slate the fans in the way he has done, is nothing short of a disgrace imo
He doesn't have to agree with the fans or anything, but his criticism of them went way beyond the realms of acceptability and I would love to tell him that face to face

Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
Henry in particular bugs me, because he is a massive hypocrite. This is a guy that in 8 years at the club, either won a trophy or reached a final every season, yet as soon as he felt the club were going to be settling for top 4 finishes he fucked off. Yet he feels entitled to tell fans we should be happy with top 4 finishes, when he wasn't.

Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
They've all, along with many other ex-players, said things that have made my blood boil, but I don't think we should have too much of a go at them.
They've played under AW and been very successful, and I know many believe AW extended their careers. As such, they must feel loyal towards him. I think you can tell with most of them that they have their doubts about AW, but are reluctant to really twist the knife.
As much as, following the 'I made the club' bollocks, I now hate the bloke, I still feel a bit guilty about it. I loved those early years, DB10, TH14, IWWW, PV4 etc and I'm extremely grateful to have witnessed them. If I'd played in those teams I'm sure my feelings would be stronger.
I think I'm entering a 'plateau' phase in my emotions (either that or I'm just drained after years of emotional turmoil). AW is of an age where his departure is coming into view and I will try to remain 'Zen' until that moment.

Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
This ^. Also as GranadaJoe says they feel they owe him and that is understandable. They went through a high pressure time in the club's history together and were very successful. They don't view Wenger the way we do. They (mostly) haven't spent their lives supporting Arsenal. These ex-players also meet Wenger at various functions throughout the year and want to keep it civil. We, as fans, don't pay these ex-players. They don't owe us anything tbh.begeegs wrote:I think that this is largely because of their current employment or potentially any future employment/role with the club. No key player was bombed out quicker by wenger than ian wright - yes he finally had got his league medal under wenger, but he had also become marginalised before being sold and he should have fcuk all loyalty to wenger

Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
I always got the impression that PL medal meant the absolute world to Wrighty. He had a competitive friendship with that prick Paul Ince and Ince used to love to show Wrighty his PL winners medals and say things like "you can't talk until you win one of these".augie wrote:GranadaJoe wrote:They've all, along with many other ex-players, said things that have made my blood boil, but I don't think we should have too much of a go at them.

Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
I was there the day we won the title in 1998 and was so pleased for Wright to finally get his league winners' medal, as his career (and being our record goalscorer) more than deserved it. It was a fitting send-off.
But because I'm so angry at the club these days - and Wright in particular, lately - I start to see things from a more bitter perspective. For instance, I recently saw the 1998 title celebrations, and was almost embarrassed for Wright by the way he was over-celebrating. Let's be honest, we were sixth in the league before he got injured in December 1997, and weren't really going anywhere with him up front. He wasn't playing badly, and was still scoring goals, but it wasn't the right formula having him in the team. He even had a massive go at the fans from the safety of the dressing room after the Blackburn game, which was good of him - but at least he cared.
Anyway, he gets injured, Anelka, Bergkamp and even Chris Wreh make MASSIVE, title-winning contributions that won us the league, and then Wright pops back on for the last 10 minutes of the Everton game, made it all about him (nothing new there) and basked in the glory of everyone else's hard work and success.
I'm glad he was so passionate, and I was legitimately happy for him on the day, but it's weird how your perceptions can change once you get pissed off with someone. Again, his career as a whole definitely deserved the medal, but would we really have won the league if he'd stayed in the team? I really doubt it. That was his last season for a reason.
