This kind of mentality just proves the level of complacency and low expectations within the club. If Theo's best is yet to come, why has be been rewarded with 140k a week? Why are we paying a player who by Wenger's own admission, hasnt reached his potential despite 10 seasons at the club, more money than Bayern are paying Robben and Ribery, and get this, only 10k less than Barcelona are paying Neymar!! Talk about mismanagement.
Theo's effectiveness is in his record, 80 odd goals despite 10 seasons at the club, which is about 8 goals a season in all competitions. Its 54 league goals, which is about 5 and half league goals a year, and so far this year he has scored 4 in the league - so he is keeping within expectations. Walcott LITERALLY averages barely 2 more league goals a season than Koscielny.
Now any other manager, tired off the unfulfilled promise, and potential in other players who actually show they are likely to perform (Campbell and Iwobi) would pretty much render Walcott transfer listed. Yet Wenger wants to resist West Ham who want to pay north of 20m for Walcott. Why?? Is it because Wenger genuinely believes in Walcott? Or because he cant bring himself to sell Walcott, and thus justify the years of criticism attributed to Walcott? Thats why Almunia lasted 3 seasons as number 1 - as replacing him is a de-facto admission he was wrong all along, and the critics were right.
Its stubbornness beyond comprehension. He would rather sit on the sidelines and squirm, as he watches the many players not good enough unintentionally destroy the season, rather than admit to himself he has been wrong all along, and that the chorus of criticism was justified all along.
Its cutting if your nose to spite your face. Imagine two people having an argument on whether is safe to eat a pie just out of the oven, one says its far to hot, the other says its fine, the one who says its fine bites into the pie, and burns the taste buds of his tongue, but rather than admit he was wrong, he takes another bite, burning the insides of his mouth - all because he didnt want to admit he was wrong. Well thats Arsene Wenger. He would rather watch Almunia offer up calamity after calamity, rather than admit a mistake, and Wenger will continue to put up with Theo's shit house goal return, just to avoid concession to the critic's.
He really is a miserable son of a bitch, being led by his own massive ego.
Wasn't that the argument made by the club when he was rewarded with his last bumper contract ? It was also backed up by many of the pro wenger and pro wally supporters who clung to this mythical notion that he actually is a quality footballer
