And Get Paid a 'Normal' Wage like the rest of us.DB10GOONER wrote:We have had this argument on here before...![]()

My standpoint is you simply cannot compare modern young footballers in the PL with other young blokes in normal jobs. With that £100K+ weekly wage comes some obligations and some required sacrifices. You have to forgo the piss ups or you will not maintain the required level of physical fitness to play at the top level. With the advent of and upsurge in social media etc players are now under the spotlight more than ever. If they are being paid to endorse certain products (boots etc) then they are being marketed and perceived as role models and thus have a commitment not to act the gash. None of these concerns are relevant to your average young bloke in a regular job. You can't compare the two.
Similarly, comparing Merson and Adams to modern players is pointless. Most professional footballers of that generation were piss heads. The physical requirements were very different to today. But there is also the argument that both Merson and Adams were very successful players and delivered the goods no matter what their lifestyle was, whereas most of these modern young players that are on the lash and/or have these social media personalities tend not to be successful. If you can fuck about and deliver the goods then fine. If you can't, then don't fuck about.
If Jack wants to act like "a normal young bloke" then fine fuck off and get a proper job like a normal young bloke.

What a complete over reaction to such a minor incident.
Jack is class and quality... No doubt had this forum been around in 1990, most would want Adams "the donkey" out of the club. He wasn't a legend at that point.

Who actually said they want Jack out because of this incident? Certainly not me. Only Sid wants him gone.Nos89 wrote:What a complete over reaction to such a minor incident.

For all of the reasons in my post above Jack is not in the same boat Adams was in 1990. Why people keep comparing them is beyond me.

Seriously when was the last period when he proved that he was class and quality?Nos89 wrote:What a complete over reaction to such a minor incident.

Probably 2011.

Re: Jack Wilshere
I would also ask just how long he showed his class and quality for that season. Two months? Three? Maybe 7 or 8 game? I certainly don't recall him blazing a path through the PL for the entire season... It's been flashes of quality from Wilshere over the years, again another player with no consistency.northbank123 wrote:Seriously when was the last period when he proved that he was class and quality?Nos89 wrote:What a complete over reaction to such a minor incident.

Occasional flashes of inspired brilliance interspersed with months of playing like a lower-league clogger and even longer recovering (out on the piss, no less) from huge injury lay-offs.Nos89 wrote:What a complete over reaction to such a minor incident.

Are we talking about the same player?

Adams was club Captain at 21, ffs. If memory serves, the 'donkey' comment was coined by some no-mark hack from a rag tabloid after he was rinsed by van Basten, who was one of the best strikers ever to play the game.
The comparison is tenuous.

Tony Adams was already a title winning captain at that point. Wilshere's a wrong-un.Nos89 wrote:What a complete over reaction to such a minor incident.

It's an insult to Adams, Parlour, Merson, et al to even compare Wilshere to them. When Wilshere has led us to a title, then we can starting hailing him as another Arsenal hero. Like most of the post-2008 vintage, he's done fuck all yet in comparison to those great Graham-era players.

Think it was cruelly labelled at him after scoring an oggy, a wicked sliced deflection away at Old.Trafford (Lukic was very poor for the goal in my opinon)officepest wrote:Occasional flashes of inspired brilliance interspersed with months of playing like a lower-league clogger and even longer recovering (out on the piss, no less) from huge injury lay-offs.Nos89 wrote:What a complete over reaction to such a minor incident.

Adams had earlier scored a very brave header, to put us 0-1 ahead in a vital match near the end of the season, which saw him lift the title twice in three seasons.
Any Arsenal fan knew the qualities he bought to the team - his unquestionable leadership, bravery, passion (all the things we sorely lack now)
Jack has yet to show that he is worthy of being compared to Tony, Tony Adams Ooh Ooh.
Re: Jack Wilshere
So JW will play 2 worthless matches this season. Then injure himself at Euros by dribbbling into a mine field and be out till 2018.
Lets see...

Re: Jack Wilshere
I mentioned Adams as a comparison for off the field behaviour. I believe if Jack was fit more often he'd be club captain. At the moment he's more of a Stewart Robson, unfulfilled potential.StuartL wrote:Think it was cruelly labelled at him after scoring an oggy, a wicked sliced deflection away at Old.Trafford (Lukic was very poor for the goal in my opinon)officepest wrote:Occasional flashes of inspired brilliance interspersed with months of playing like a lower-league clogger and even longer recovering (out on the piss, no less) from huge injury lay-offs.Nos89 wrote:What a complete over reaction to such a minor incident.

Between Jack and Santi had either or both been fit in the last 3 months we'd be ahead of Leicester.

Re: Jack Wilshere
I don't agree. There are far too many things wrong with this team, not just missing 2 quality (if inconsistent) players like Jack and Santi. Being a bit simplistic here but the main problems are Wenger's ineptitude and the spineless soft core of most of our players. We destroyed Watford 4-0 and looked as good as at any time in the last few seasons. Because the pressure was off. When it mattered in the FA Cup we lost to that same Watford team.Nos89 wrote:I mentioned Adams as a comparison for off the field behaviour. I believe if Jack was fit more often he'd be club captain. The fact our squad is so thin that we can't cope when a bit-part player with unfulfilled potential and a bits-and-pieces midfielder drop out is damning; especially when you consider how much we piss away on wages.
Jack's a good player, and I'm sure 90% of people on here would agree; but is he really the answer to our ills, honestly?
Re: Jack Wilshere
Wilshere isn't worthy to be captain of The Arsenal, IMO.
