Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
The question I have is aimed at those that still feel that wenger needs to go/is underperforming............if the likes of keown are defending wenger's performance believing it to be an acceptable level, then how in gods name could you think of installing him as manager ?? Is that the level where keown sets the bar ? Would he claim to be doing a good job if he performed no better or worse than wenger ? After all if this level of performance is good enough by wenger, then how could it not be good enough for keown ?

Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
The irony is that they are all so loyal to TOF even though he wouldn't let them on the coaching staff - except Keown's brief but successful job at the club, which just makes them even more cowardly. It has always hurt that none of those 90s players are on the staff (except Bouldy, who isn't allowed to do anything useful). It always annoyed me that Seaman isn't our goalkeeping coach; I know he wanted that job too.
I remember on 5Live David Pleat, of all people, criticising Keown (and most pundits of his generation) for not going into coaching. Even Keown himself has expressed regret that his coaching career hasn't gone anywhere yet and may be looking for an opportunity elsewhere, given how Arsenal is a lock-out under TOF.

I guess the idea is that he is so good at double-speak, but clearly knows our typical defensive/tactical errors so well. Take TOF out of the equation, and they can be impartial enough to do something about it. TOF is the blind spot that they cannot criticise.augie wrote:The question I have is aimed at those that still feel that wenger needs to go/is underperforming............if the likes of keown are defending wenger's performance believing it to be an acceptable level, then how in gods name could you think of installing him as manager ?? Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
Whoever comes in needs to rip out the soft core and scour the club top to bottom
Just like England women appointed somebody to completely clear out the culture after Hope Powell's regime had become stagnant, we need the same.
Whilst we have a good enough squad to challenge domestically and perform better, the club and players' mindset is not right. It's not a case of making a few tweaks to take us to the next level, whoever comes in needs to scour the walls down with bleach and start afresh.

Which is what they regularly do at Ajax, so I read in Bergkamp's book - they take a step back and review all aspects to decide if it could be better, or if some area's are underperforming.......at Arsene fc its just reward everybody with a new contract.GoonerMuzz wrote:100% agree, club needs gutting root and branch.... then fumigatednorthbank123 wrote:Whoever comes in needs to rip out the soft core and scour the club top to bottom

Ah great Boro Primark , he's the real number 2 and coins 3 mill quid per annum !
Apart from having long conversations in the corner of London Colney with Wenger , and staring at the players
whilst they train ,few people including the players know what he does .
Unlike Steve Bold he doesn't have a clipboard nor does he put cones out .
He is however the only person Wenger trusts or listens to !
On the subject of Keown its hardly surprising he wont diss the wenger man ,if it wasn't for wenger he wouldn't have got his league winners medal in his last season .
Who can forget those halcyon days when he would get on for 5 or 10 mins in a game to great applause !

Re: Ex-Players 'Hall of Shame'
I remember the Brum home game (I think) after we'd won the league and Keown needed to come on in all remaining games. We hAd already made 2 subs and Parlour started stripping his tracksuit off and pretending to take instructions from somebody stood behind Keown as if he was being brought on.Herd wrote:Ah great Boro Primark , he's the real number 2 and coins 3 mill quid per annum !

Keown's face was a picture!

Absolutely spot on comment by Merson on SSN. When asked about the match on Saturday he said, "Without question Arsenal are the best team in the league when there is no pressure on them."

He's right; but he's also a flip-flopperNos89 wrote:Absolutely spot on comment by Merson on SSN. When asked about the match on Saturday he said, "Without question Arsenal are the best team in the league when there is no pressure on them."

"The players have let the manager down".
He's been trotting this out for fucking years now.
Keown is a high-grade fuckwit.

You need ex-players from the pre-Wenger era to get any honestydonaldo71 wrote:Paul Scholes and Gary Nevile Man Utd legends but they tell it like it is when they talk about United. They hammer United

There is one such man - Stewart Robson - and all he got was a load of stick with people calling him bitter. I actually think the bloke produces well reasoned arguments and isn't worried about sticking the knife in when its due

Another favourite is to slag off "the club" or "the team" in a generic manner.
Was hoping Henry Winters quotes would be put to Wenger in today's press conference but take it they weren't given that his arrogant reply isn't splashed on BBC homepage.
