The Villa game - one big push

The Villa game - one big push

Post by Bob Bayliss »

The last game of the season will be the ultimate flat track bully exhibition, probably ending 6 or 7-0. Against this inevitable background, we need as many who care about the club to turn up to protest both outside and (those who still have tickets) inside. It needs to be highly planned and highly organised.

We certainly need banners - as many as can be smuggled in.

We also need a song which will resonate around the ground. Nothing offensive which will alienate some people. I suggest simply:

"Au revoir, au revoir Arsene Wenger
Au revoir, au revoir we say
Au revoir, au revoir, Arsene Wenger
We'll be happy when you leave today".

Finally, and as the coup de grace, we need a concerted walk-out on 80 minutes - 10 minutes from the end, to mark 10 years since we left Highbury with the promise of remaining a serious power in the game at our shiny new stadium. Let's make sure the "lap of appreciation" is carried out in front of a near empty ground.

Nice idea but there will be too many in the stadium who will be celebrating our VT and Feo's inevitable hat trick against Villa..
A problem with all seater stadium is not having like minded people together.
If a group of protesters could be together I would say stay for the lap of appreciation but turn your back on it as it passes, while chanting "that's what we left Highbury for"
This battle is also being raged on Twitter with one bloke (Geoff) still insisting loyalty to Wenger is a precondition of being an Arsenal supporter.

I was thinking about this last night. I would really like Wenger to see my "Wenger Out" banner as he is walking round on the "lap of appreciation".

the Villa game is far far too late im afraid.
it is a complete non event, and will get very little media coverage, probably the last match shown on MOTD etc.

our next four PL games however are big TV events, all live on SKY, and against relegation candidates and our top 4 rival, Man City.
these are the games that the protests have to be stepped up for, starting with Thursday night v WBA.

Agree 100% 8)

In effect NOW is the time to protest and with each game the organisation of protests should improve and increase in intensity. However if you are arsehole wenger, and you knew that you were coming in for some serious stick from fans, then you couldn't hand pick a better run of fixtures to finish your season knowing that victories would probably quieten many of the irate fans  Playing any league game on a Thursday night will feel surreal, but playing against a totally non interested baggies team will only make it worse - there will be loads of empty seats and a really flat atmosphere, but on the flip side there will be loads of tourists/jcl's who will be there purely for the experience and will be so happy to have got a ticket for the game that they wouldn't dream of voicing any displeasure  The baggies too will probably only bring one coach full of supporters, so their players wont feel motivated/under pressure to turn in a good performance

As I have said many times lately, I really hope that we get the shit kicked out of us in every game between here and the end of the season - I don't feel that way in the hope that it will see us drop out of top 4, but with the hope that it would increase the anger inside the soulless bowl and turn on the pressure on the arrogant senile old c.unt

Gotta agree, way too late and won't get picked up by the media, due to the wankfest over Leicester (lets hope), Thursday is the perfect time as its the only game on and its on Sky, is it too much to ask for some audible chanting which will hopefully get mentioned by the commentators, give it time to build for the last few games. At least it might mean on offer of a new contract (though I can see them sneeking it through in the middle of the Euro's hoping no-one pays it much attention

I hope this happens, it would be hilarious :D

I think however what will happen is a low key afternoon affair in the May sunshine, that time of year when it genuinely is hard to stay awake at the Grove. Villa will exit the Premier League with their 14th straight defeat and we'll be left wondering which of our lap of honour waving players have started pushing for a move away.

The one big push should be banners and chanting at all remaining games, not just the Villa game. Hound him out! :barscarf:

Personally, my song of choice would be:

"we know what we are, we not what we are, specialists in failure, we know what we are"

It's a phrase that gets under Wenger's skin and one that every fan and journalist can identify with. Self mockery at our clubs pathetic continued failure (with a not to subtle dig at Wenger) would get my vote.

WBA game does make more sense for a protest. One game on that night, no other distractions. Sky live coverage, hope they interview a few fans outside ( although they will probably get a some AKB s)
Villa game will be a total non event media wise
