THE WENGER THREAD
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Reasons why Wenger won't go are simply he doesn't know when to go. He should have gone in 2007 after disbanding the Invincible squad. Fergie and Dalglish went when the generation of players that were successful were coming towards the end of their careers...by committing to project youth and project British he probably feels that the club owes him for not leaving when his profile was at its peak. At a time when the club was vulnerable to its creditors.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
A lot of truth in that. I understood the top 4 mentality when we had a massive mortgage to pay but it should have ended then. It does make you wonder when he says the "we could have signed xyz" shit if the clubs lack of desire to win trophies was why most of them got away. It was either that or the economics professor refusing to pay a value he didn't agree with.BFG4 wrote:In my opinion, the biggest indictment of Wenger's time in charge, is the loser mentality that is prevalent at the club. For the first five years or so after we moved to the Emirates, Wenger treated top 4 finishes as success, but none of our players really did. Most of them seen the reality of playing under crackpot, and fucked off to clubs that could win actual trophies. Of the current squad, with the exception of Ozil and Sanchez, most of our squad seem quite contented with never winning a title, and doing just about enough to finish top 4 every year. Look at Giroud's reaction to setting up a goal last weekend. Does anyone think he cares about our title challenge going up in smoke, or that he is one of the causes of this failed season. No, he is too busy having a pop at the fans, for having questioned him. When Ozil and Sanchez leave, Wenger wont replace them with world class players, because they tend to question why we aren't winning things. Its better to have losers like Giroud, Ramsey etc. who are quit comfortable in being mediocre.
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I still want protests to continue. Even if they only have just 5% difference in The Old Fraud's future here. The fight must go on.
It's good that some here are resigned to the 2019 extension (less painful that way, if the worst happens), but we can still protest against it. If we really have nothing to lose, why not fight? These protests will force the media to aggravate TOF by questioning him. He has responded badly to questioning under pressure (Why do you look at me? 'How many games have you managed?' etc). We have to make TOF want to leave, as the board are quite happy to keep him here forever. Damaging TOF's ego is how we force an endgame, we just need to keep the pressure up until it's untenable. As has been said, the 'brand' is already being damaged by our shite attendance and atmosphere in the bowl.
Had Wenger left in 2008, he'd have still been a legend. Instead he became drunk with power and turned the club into his plaything with the failed Project Youth. He finds spending money (and shooting on goal) so vulgar. Without Dein's persistent encouragement, he's a total fraud. He has bought totally into the austerity lie - I think he actually believes it now. Fuck leaving with dignity and 'earned the right to decide when he leaves'; that ship has sailed.
It's so disappointing to see Keown once again being such a rabid AKB. Why would this warrior as a player endorse this total coward of a manager after eight Groundhog Seasons? Such devoted loyalty to a man who scandalously wouldn't give him a coaching job after the CL final run in 2006.
I was shocked to see that 'Guvnor' is above legal drinking age, yet is too pussy to show his face. I like how he tried to leave half-way though. DT destroyed the little brainwashed WUM

I even saw him with his Bob the Builder hard-hat, cement and leetle beet bricks. Even when claiming to want him out, the AKB will always put itselfSPUDMASHER wrote:As I said in a recent post, I would have liked him to go with his head held high but that just isn't possible now. I think you can track things back to the departure of David Dein and subsequently Ken Friar. Prior to that he was pretty much a conventional manager. He did the team side of things and they did the finance and club matters. Whether by design or accident he took on a large part of those roles after they left and consequently became too powerful at the club. One thing we all know is that power corrupts and boy has it done so here. I think that is a large factor behind his escalating levels of arrogance and disrespect for others. He doesn't really appear to have to answer to anyone at the club!
Head held high would have been nice, of course it would, but now there's no way that can ever happen. It's a bloody shame when power and arrogance makes any person destroys their own legacy. He would have been remembered as one of Arsenals greatest managers, Now he'll just be the guy that built a stadium and wrecked the team in doing so. I don't subscribe to the 'be careful what you wish for' theory. I think the foundations are still there and strong enough to rebuild with a new person at the helm. It may take a couple of years but we don't have a right to expect anything else. Liverpool have turned things around quite quickly with the arrival of Klopp whereas Manure have suffered with Moyes and rubberface. Who knows what way we'll go?
I just hope it is over sooner rather than later but doubt it will be.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Name me another manager that can micro manage an entire football club and work full time in construction for only £6-8M? you ungrateful plebeians.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Silly fools, they put "The New Home of Arsenal" on that banner, instead of "The New Home of Arsene"....Supagoon wrote:Name me another manager that can micro manage an entire football club and work full time in construction for only £6-8M? you ungrateful plebeians.

that pic just smashes home what a dull, decrepit concrete mess the bowl looked like at the beginning until the arsenal-isation commenced circa 2010. looked like a fucking car park in slough ffs
as much i loved highbury, the move just had to happen. just a shame that the club decided to build such a bland fucking shithole as it did, instead of trying to recreate highbury, or at least give us an end or something. hope west ham end up feeling the same as us in some years time as they settle into their own bowl

I bet the *word censored* wasn't even supposed to be in that photo but just jumped in front of every camera shouting "Me, me, take one of me, take another, it's all about me."Supagoon wrote:Name me another manager that can micro manage an entire football club and work full time in construction for only £6-8M? you ungrateful plebeians.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Klopp takes the dippers to two finals including a European final with Brendan Rogers team.
Two finals in less than a season, with Kolo Toure.
But who could ever have replaced him eh?
Gotta be careful what you wish for. Dont wanna end up like Liverpool.

Liverpool to win a European trophy in the first season with Klopp? After only losing the league cup on penalties.
We could have had Klopp, but were told 'the timing wasnt right'. Same thing with Guardiola who I believe would have joined us over City - 'would have been good, but the timing wasnt right'. Simple solution, make the timing right by re-moving the manager. We have missed Klopp and Guardiola simply because some feel we owe it to Wenger to what, whats he building toward? He does the same thing every season and we remain flat at best.
What if Simeone looks likely to leave Atletico Madrid, would we again refrain from competing for one of the worlds top managers just because Wenger doesnt want to retire yet?
We are supposed to drift aimlessly year to year, watching out intimidate rivals appoint some of the top young managers in world football, out of blind loyalty to Wenger? Where has this loyalty gotten us?
Klopp, Simione, Pochettino, Guardiola - these are the top young managers in the world, and 3 of them are local rivals. Two of them we refused to compete for, and one of them manages Tottenham.
Yet incredibly, we are told not to worry because Wenger 'has a plan'. This is the equivalent to going into battle, and being told not to worry as you have a great general *Frank Spencer pops his heard around the corner*.

Glad you're still reading my posts. It's nice to know I have a fan. If I ever get to meet you I will autograph your tits for you if you'd like me to!armchair wrote:Oh good. Spuddy has spoken. If you had read earlier posts though, before you became a fan of mine, you'd know I've been saying that for a while!
I'd also suggest that if you have nothing to contribute to the thread then just don't bother posting. Doing so purely to have a dig at me just shows that you're not really capable of reasoned discussion and just make you sound like a child. There's no point in being a keyboard warrior if there isn't any substance to your words is there!
