Progress huh? Demented old fool.
He reckons other clubs would have been delighted to finish second.
WENGER OUT
However the big thing for me is that ONCE AGAIN we have not competed for the title in the crucial last 2 months of the season.
TWELVE consecutive seasons like that now - unacceptable.
meanwhile a large part of our fanbase will see yesterday as justification for keeping Wenger![]()

Love the "It's decisive moments like this that make the difference between winners and losers." bit.
Not sure they realise we finished second and not first.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
We can't sum up this season and Wengers record without looking at our players. Nobody on here will say that Sanchez and Ozil are bad buys but they both had medium seasons especially Sanchez. To win the League they have to be on top form like Henry was most weeks.
Mind you I'm not talking about them it's really all about the players he has invested time and money in. Yes Theo Walcott let the manager down. Wenger will always back his players and never gives up on them. In life that is a great quality but in football it's the difference between winning and losing.
You can add Ox Chamberlain to the club as well but Theo showed a lack of everything this season when we needed him.
Wengers record in midfield and forward players is excellent but the time and money he wasted on Walcott is shocking. I think if you are good enough then you hit the ground running. I don't think you buy an 18 year old and wait years for him to reach a potential. Deli Alli at Spuds u like has played better this season then Walcott and Ox have in their careers.
It's defence and the DM position that is Wengers downfall. Again his big money signing of Gabriel just doesn't look good enough to push us from top 4 to Champions.
I think Giroud will be a decent back up striker next season with a new signing in his place.
I think Walcott should leave but he might just stay and pocket the money.
Our midfield will be improved but I bet we don't sign a CB and that is where the others will strengthen as they all leaked too many goals. We actually didn't concede that many this season but we are far from solid against the best teams. Hope I'm wrong about Gabriel but I don't trust him.
That's how I see it the boss was shafted from certain players.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
The benchmark which this club should judge itself by is proximity to winning the league.
Again we are double digits away in terms of points and were well out of the title race by April. The fact that Chelsea for example were inexplicably shit and despite taking 6 points from us could only amass an embarrassing points total rather than say 75 points and nestling between us and Leicester doesn't make me feel a huge deal better about that.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Leicester are unbeaten since we beat them in the last minute (8 wins, 4 draws, 7 clean sheets). So they found the reaction of champions. We took selfies and promptly capitulated against Man Utd and Swansea. That says it all about the rotten mentality at the club.
I remember earlier in the season when we were in the mix, Carragher said Arsenal haven't improved but everyone else has dropped off. Taking the whole season into account, I think it's worse than that. We are back to our lowest points total since that abortion of a season in 2011-12 (the 8-2 at OT, 4-3 at Blackburn, no Fabregas, no Nasri etc). We've actually got worse but the rest of the big guns got worse at a more extreme rate.

One big difference this season is that unusually we have beaten the champions home and away. Normally part of the reason there is such a big gap is because we have given away all 6 points to the eventual title winners.
This season, in the other 36 games both Arsenal and Leicester played, Leicester got 16 points more than we did. As we supposedly had a settled team with a manager that had been given a massive amount of money and as much as 11 seasons to build a title winning side ... that is a pretty shocking difference.

1) We have the longest serving manager in the league, we bought one players in the summer so absolute minimum disruption in the squad and therefore it appeared as though the manager thought we had a team capable of challenging for the league.
2) Last years winners first half of the season fell apart due to player rebellion and manager sacking therefore there was no challenge there.
3) City had a mediocre start to the season then decided to ditch their manager and announced it halfway through the season meaning their season was compromised.
4) United have been in turmoil all season, unpopular manager, poor performances, unhappy fans throughout the season.
So basically our Manager had the best opportunity in years to take advantage of the situation and beat the supposed big money clubs and win it, yet he couldn't. In fact up until the last couple of games of the season we were struggling to challenge the scum from down the lane and if not for them imploding as opposed to us playing well we not only would have finished behind a totally dominant Leicester but those

It is completely galling that anyone can hold up 2nd place in the worst Premier League ever as an achievement because if we are all brutally honest we were lucky and maybe didn't deserve it.
Points total says it all, 71 points on average is 4/5th place only 1 other time in the last 10 season has it been enough for 2nd.
It really puts into perspective last summers transfer window, a couple of decent signings and we would have probably won, not only that but it means any signings this summer must take into account all the changes that will be taking place across the league but also those of last season too because whether we like it or not the Premier League is changing and do any of us really have confidence that Wenger can change his spots this summer?

Just saw on Sky website that Arsenal would be Champions if shots against the post or crossbar counted as goals...So another trophy for Arsene's Arsenal, hope this one is made out of wood rather than silver. .

SlySports really have become the tele-visual embodiment of the tabloid newspaper, haven't they? Another story from nothing.
If this, if that....

What next? a survey that shows Giroud was on average 5-10cm away on the striking point of his left foot from outscoring Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar Jr, & Suarez this season.Bradywasking wrote:Just saw on Sky website that Arsenal would be Champions if shots against the post or crossbar counted as goals...So another trophy for Arsene's Arsenal, hope this one is made out of wood rather than silver. .

If lamposts counted as centre forwards we'd have won the CL as well.Bradywasking wrote:Just saw on Sky website that Arsenal would be Champions if shots against the post or crossbar counted as goals...So another trophy for Arsene's Arsenal, hope this one is made out of wood rather than silver. .
I thank God every day that Sky came and saved football. How did we cope without their in-depth analysis of the game ?!
