I've defended Theo on here many times and I still stand by my reasoning that when on top form and in the right position he is a very good addition to any team, he just seemed to have totally given up on his season and that's unacceptable, sell him.

As for the England squad, looks ok but as usual we will get found out at tournament level although we qualified so easily, hope I'm wrong and we go on and win it.

I'd take Townsend over Theo. I can't see any way Theo is going to improve, whereas Townsend puts in a shift and provides more of a goal threat.
As I said o would take townsend now but he is no great player and as I also said if you look at their stats and I haven't you will see that up until this season I am sure Theo pisses all over townsend (water sports anyone) in goals and assists.
It was said on MOTD that Townsend had been at the Scum eight years but had only started 22 games. I suspect that Flamini, Gervinho and Sanogo all have better stats as well.
Bit stange cos it says he had 51 starts and scored 3 goals from those starts but played a part in 88 games, don't know but he's shit anyway

Have to say that, in a football world almost devoid of them, defoe is one of the best natural finishers/goal poachers around (and not just in england). I too dont like the w*nker, but I will still acknowledge that he has a gift that you cannot coach into footballers of any age cos instinct is a natural reaction

Can his PA put you down for a "Jermain" branded T-Shirt?

He has a "Lite" version of what Wrighty had. Wrighty is still one of the best natural finishers I've ever seen. Defoe has it to a certain extent, I'll admit, but not to PL standard.

He's never hit 20 league goals a season in his 16 year career at any level. Not once. And if you look at the number of games he got in the PL his goals to games ratio went downhill rapidly in PL teams. His goals stats are heavily massaged by spells in the 2nd division, MLS, and Championship.

And he's a prize prick. 8)

Fair point - of course he'll never be a patch on Wes Hoolahan or Glenn Whelan. Thinking of having a punt on Jon Walters to finish as leading scorer too :D

Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur), Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool).

Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Ross Barkley (Everton), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Danny Drinkwater (Leicester City), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Andros Townsend (Newcastle United), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).

Strikers: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United).

Just Jack in the England team. Glad Theo didnt make it. He has a complacency about him where he expects to get picked despite doing nothing to warrant it. No doubt about it, Theo right now in his own mind 'cant understand why' he didnt get picked. Andors Townsend and Marcus Rashford given the nod ahead of him. If this doesnt make Wenger question his decision to pay him 140k a week, nothing will.
Rashford, Henderson and Sterling will be likely candidates to be dropped. I would've included Theo in the initial squad and checked the fitness of Sturridge, Townsend. He's been awful, as Wenger pointed out, since the United game. Watched Rooney in the deeper role and he looked naturally made for the position. He might finally deliver at a tournament. Townsend seems to play well for Hodgesons team and off the bench has scored a couple of corkers in the qualifications matches. Only 3 CB would be a concern. Jagielka is not in the list above? Not is Baines which is a surprise as he's back in form. Wilshere will be back up for Rooney so may not get a game. Still not sure what Delph actually offers.

I am fully expecting Rudolph (or whatever poor c.unt we have in goals) to win the golden glove - how could any keeper playing behind a defence that has Richard Keogh and john o'shea as first choice centre backs, fail to win the keeper with most clean sheets ?

One of the bizarre quirks of modern football is the fact that shite like O'Shea has a CL winners medal and The Bergkamp doesn't.

Somewhere a whole fuckload of kittens died because of that. :x

Having managed to stay awake during the game against Turkey, England can win the competition by simply boring everyone else to death. A style similar that has won Manure the FA cup, and got Athletico Madrid to the Champions league final

Pushing the boundaries of reality to mention those two in the same breath!

United stumbled past far inferior opposition at every stage playing dour rubbish and keeping 2 clean sheets in 7 games (against League One sides). Atletico are unadventurous but probably the best organised side and best defensive unit Europe have seen for decades. If Rose, Cahill, Smalling and Clyne can emulate that then good on them!
