The ONLY Euro 2016 thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

You must have seen the actions of so called England fans over the last few days in Marseille, you cannot condone that

they are paying for their reputation

Where is evidence of knives thats a new story i have not heard, would think unlikely but will reserve judgement until i see the proof?

okay, no concrete evidence, but outside UK media spouting.

"Reporters on the ground have spoken of Russian fans, some wearing helmets, and carrying knives and broken bottles attacking innocent supporters. One person was shown on television wielding a chair knocking down a man walking down stairs and then once on the ground smashing the chair into his head."

Read back through my posts and you will find that I would be the first to acknowledge that the VAST MAJORITY of English fans are there to support their team and enjoy the craic - that being said however, it doesn't excuse the behaviour of the minority, and it shouldn't mean that there are no sanctions imposed on the countries involved. I have also said in previous posts, that there is no doubt that engerland are being punished for past sins but that is a two way street - England are being blamed by authorities cos of previous and their fans are being targeted as retribution  The rep of the English fans means that the nasty b*stards from the other countries are going after them because the English hooligans are the yardstick from which all other hooligans are judged - in other words if we give the English fans a beating then how hard are we  Likewise though, many of the English fans thrive on their rep and try to look intimidating and strike fear into opposition fans.

Whether you like it or not, decent English fans don't (in my opinion) show any inclination to influence any change - things like booing and/or whistling opposition anthems is petty and reflects poorly on the fans, but they continue to do it unchecked by their peers. To me there seems to be a them and us mentality with the English fans - yes most will be disgusted and ashamed at the actions of the minority, but they will remain loyal to them cos they are together in a foreign country dealing with foreign cops and foreign fans.

Not sure if your post is coming is being influenced by the paranoid mentality shown by some on here lately, but because people criticise some of the shit that has gone on, it doesn't mean that they are anti English. Many Gooners on this forum berate the lack of responsibility for their actions that the scousers have shown in the past, and yet a similar mindset is being shown by one or two on here regarding the behaviour of the English fans in france.

Btw Russia should never be awarded the euros or the world cup - their racist views are well documented, but it is the savage behaviour of the Russian gangs and cops that would worry me and IF Ireland qualify, I wouldn't go even if a was given a vip trip for free

Lastly you are correct that I rarely venture into the cannonballs section (unless I need to see a few titty pics  ) and I very rarely post there - what I will say though is that I didn't "stir it up" as you claim. When a :censored: suggests that you are an isis supporter because you dare to criticise the behaviour of some English fans, then that is stirring it up and responding to it is understandable imo

yes its a bit like war....the first casualty being the truth

not heard or seen any evidence of knives and no reported stabbings as yet, lets hope it stays that way

TBH im sickened with all this violence, sport is meant to bring people together and not so as they can kill each other

Are you having a laff ?? At what point do you think that it is reasonable to send the trouble makers home ? I seriously don't understand the mindset of people sometimes :?
what do you mean troublemakers? you mean the fans chucking furniture around? the russians going after innocent fans with knives or the actual football team? in what way does the punishment fit the crime?

lets be honest, all it takes now is for some more french mobs to get together and steam into us, one of ours is gonna retaliate and we could end up with serious repercussions coming our way. there was trouble before croatia v turkey yet the media aren't interested in that, instead they're desperate to create outrage over the antics of our fans instead.

btw every nations fans boo each other's anthems, i'm sure you'll be hearing the welsh boo ours in a couple of days time....it's football, it's territorial.

Send who home though? - France, England and Russia troublemakers seem to be the biggest offenders so far, but it's only day 3! plenty of time for others to get involved!

The press should name and shame any England yobs caught on camera though. Shameful behaviour.

Augie, is your "send them home" campaign a cheeky ploy to eliminate everyone bar Ireland?

These Eastern European fans are something else - rocking up tooled up to their eyeballs with military planning.

England fans have unsurprisingly embarrassed themselves in Marseille and although comical in a way the predictable clips of topless middle-aged blokes singing Ingerlund Ingerlund Ingerlund and chucking bottles etc is shameful.

That said general public disorder is miles away from targeted extreme violence (particularly against innocent fans) which English club sides have been subjected to in cities in France and Italy (at least) in UEFA competitions for years now. The last few days have been the beginning - the rest of the tournament is going to be complete and utter fucking carnage. Hope Wales fans and Toulouse are ready for the Russians - they're going to get a fight whether they want one or not.

UEFA don't have the stones to kick a side out for this or issue the sort of punishments which this disgusting behaviour merits. It's sending football back to the dark ages.
