That's just not the reality Chippy and I suspect that you are being disingenuous. No government is going to hold a referendum on continued Eu membership for decades if this vote goes as expected and we stay in.

You know that, I know that. And by the same logic there is always the option to join the EU again - they will be pissy if we voted out but look at how desperate they are to continue expanding towards Eurasia - they are not going to turn down one of the worlds largest economies, a massive net importer and one of the world leaders in science and education to pluck two fields out of the air. Although the sun falling out of the sky tomorrow if we vote leave might obviously affect that....

The EU is now a completely different organisation to the pre-Euro 14 like-minded member state body two decades ago - whether you support it or not it has become far more aggressive in terms of political interference, geographic scope, cost and drive for federalism for a start. Christ knows what it will look like in a few decades so staying in shouldn't be considered the 'safe option' for somebody who is on balance anti-EU.

But we don't need a referendum to leave. A simple act of parliament would do. If enough eurosceptic MPs get elected it could happen. Given how much aggro it will cause to get us out there is no chance of them letting us back in in the near future.

There is a big problem with that. In the past the UK and Ireland have had the same rules for foreigners entering so our passport less border isn't an issue. Post Brexit obviously Ireland would have free movement of people from the other 26. If the UK doesn't want those guys to get in through the back door so to speak, there will have to be passport controls.

In Archway there was a great place for the Irish girls called the Gresham ,then in Kilburn there was Ashtons (renamed Gashtons) on the edgeware rd next to the Galtymore ,fucking excellent place for pulling expeically when I was going through a grab a ginger phase !

We don't need one but no government is going to think about passing a bill to that effect against the will of the public on an issue that has historically been dealt with by referenda. Even if the number of Eurosceptic MPs more than doubled to give them a minority, it's just not realistically going to happen.

Whatever happens today will bind us for a few decades at least - I don't have an issue with that.
