Lukaku is not the complete striker we need but don't agree that he's worse than Giroud, not by any means.

Will he suddenly turn into a quick and skilful striker with the guile to create something from nothing? It's not his type of game and never will be because he lacks the technical ability and footballing IQ.

Icardi is the best bet at this point. Inter are in a financial shithole and it's baffling why we haven't gone in for him.

I don't expect any signings until the pound has picked up, Wenger's got a nice tidy excuse at the moment.

Btw what impact, if any, will the uk leaving the eu have on English football ? I don't want to turn this question into another debate/argument over how the vote went, but am curious to know if ye think that there will be a knock on effect

1. Up to this point players from the eu were able to join any English club without having to qualify like south American players (for example) do - will European players now need to have played a set percentage of international games within the past two years before they will be allowed to join ?

2. Will European players like differently at joining an English club now ? It's all well and good for the uk residents to rejoice or bemoan their decision, but for other European people will they be less keen to come to an English club and will they view English society differently ? I understand the different points that have been made by people who wanted out of the eu, but I do wonder if other Europeans will just look at the end result and view it as a rejection of Europe and its people - I know that if I was French or german (for example), I would feel that English people don't want outsiders like me in their country

3. Financially this decision is either going to prevent European players coming, or it will mean that it is gonna cost English clubs a lot more to get them over here. The value of sterling has already plummeted so it's gonna cost the clubs a lot more money to continue to pay existing contracts and maybe they wont be as eager to commit to these more expensive contracts in the future ? If the contracts currently in place set the players wages in sterling value, then overnight the European players have taken a hit to their wages and the mercenary football world wont take to that kindly. If, as expected, the cost of living in the uk rises significantly, will it also deter European players from coming over cos they will then be getting "less bang for their buck" so to speak ?

Maybe these questions should be in the brexit thread in the cannonballs section, but I put them in here cos they directly apply to our transfer dealings going forward - we all (probably correctly) point to the theory that wenger will now use the situation as a reason for not buying players, but this whole issue applies to English football in general and will apply to our club after le cock is gone, so I am asking how big the long term affect be for English football ?

Btw I find it woefully disturbing that in the midst of the whole vardy situation, and the fact that all the players we are linked with are strikers, nobody is saying anything about the need for a centre back Unless I am mistaken (it happens an odd time), we do not seem to be linked to even one centre back by any of the media and it's like they aren't even hearing anything about our interest in buying one. Even on here we seem to be fixated purely on getting a top quality striker, and that is all well and good but we will not win a major trophy with either BFG or Gabriel as first choice next season

Don't think anyone can say for sure how transfers will work now.
It really depends on what happens with the free movement of people around Europe.

However if it turns out they do need to qualify like non-EUs, perhaps we may end up with more Ozils and less Sonogos which can't be a bad thing.
