I keep reading almost daily reports linking us to Lacazette, but that we’re baulking at the £35m+ asking fee.

Nothing of any note will happen and nobody who could actually transform the club will be signed. Nobody decent looks at Arsenal as anything other than tired, stale, directionless and badly managed so why bother coming? At his age, and given where he's played up to now, Ibrahimovic will struggle with the pace and physicality of the PL. 5 or 6 years ago? Yeah he'd have nailed it. But at 34 (35 in October)?? I'm very very doubtful. He's an arrogant trip-wire too. How long before he gets sick of not being the superstar, because there's no way he'll start every game in that league at that age, how long before he gets sick of getting kicked and pulled by Stoke/West Brom/Wham defenders and over-reacts?

Shrewd signing this for United. He outscored Cavani last season. The defending in the PL isn't great and considering hes played in Italy and Spain he's smart enough to score. The 4 goals he scored against England were against Shawcross so Stoke will be easy for him. It's also his standing in the game. A much bigger global star than any player in the current United squad. Rooney will struggle to get in the team.

And bruce rioch felt that john McGinley was a better striker than wrighty.......opinions are subjective. I could also point out that psg got rid of blanc cos they didn't think that he was doing as well as he should - hardly a ringing endorsement of the guy

The guy has been part of a title winning team, as a main striker in 11 out of 12 season in 3 different leagues. But you think he's not worth signing for free cos he's 35. The guy is a top class striker with a reputation and presence that was perhaps too big a personality for our team to live with.

The guy is also going to be soaking up probably a quarter of a million a week in wages and will kick up a stink as soon as he isn't the main man.

Not saying it's necessarily a bad signing, but it's not completely risk-free just because he's on a free.

In the here and now he is a 34 year old (will be 35 in October) striker earning 300k per week - the fact that he won leagues in the past isn't relevant to the here and now cos he is a much older player now. You will probably point to his recent French league titles but, lets be honest here, the French league is piss poor at best.
Lets also look at the recent performances of the player himself.........in the first two games at euro 16 he didn't even have 1 short on target (and one of those games was against Ireland) much less actually score a goal
If his wage reports figures are anywhere near correct, his wage for one year in that shithole will be approx. £15m and that does not qualify as a free signing in my book

Wenger will sign a fairly big name, he's under too much pressure now not to.

Problem is that one big name per summer in the mould of Ozil / Sanchez is no longer enough to keep pace now with our 'title rivals'. Pogba will goto one of the Manchester clubs and look who they both have signed already.

Higuain has to move somewhere this summer, still hopeful on him.

3 years ago in the summer of 2013 he identified that we needed a world class striker - he "tried" to sign Higuain and Suarez and failed.

It wasn't til the very end of the transfer window 1 year later in 2014 that he signed a striker. While I like Welbecks work rate, effort, hunger and commitment I wouldn't categorise him as world class.

On to the summer of 2015 and not one outfield player was purchased coz there was no one available that could improve our perennial bottle jobs.

Summer of 2016 we have let Albert Steptoe use us to get a pay rise. As has been previously said the negotiations should've went something like this - Hi Albs u wanna sign for The Arsenal, let us know by 5 o'clock today or else u've lost ur one chance of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. If its a no that's no problem but we can't be waiting around, after all we are The Arsenal. What did we do - got our pants pulled down and again failed in an attempt to lure a striker to a club that shouldn't need luring.
