As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Wenger will smirk his way through all the pre-season pressers - and then by time it gets to the point where we should have signed someone - he will do the Gallic shrug and say

Wull urrrrhhh we ave a strong squad etc etc :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:

Telegraph saying we're in for Lacazette. I'd take that at this point. Not elite level but much better than Giroud which is the most important thing.

Don't see Wenger spending 50-70 million on Morata/Auba/Higuain.

If we are to believe that lacazette would cost £35m-£40m, and lukaku, higuain and morata would cost north of £50m, then the guy at Dortmund (abamayueng sp  ) would be a far more sensible buy even if he cost as much as £60m (although the rumours is that his price is below £50m). Of course it is highly debateable whether Dortmund would let another top player leave this summer

It's even more debatable that he'd even consider signing for us, as soon as he was "officially" available the more pragmatic clubs would soon Hoover him up

No doubt Giroud will be our new signing now he has hit a rich vein of goalscoring form.

Would he be "much better" though? Scoring goals in Ligue 1 very different to the PL. Giroud managed 21 goals in 36 games in his last year in France. Lacazette managed 21 in 34 last season and since his debut in 2009 has only scored more than 20 league goals on 2 occasions. Add in the difficulty many foreign players have adjusting to the pace and physicality of the PL and my fear is he might be just another Giroud.... :|

Also agree I can't see Wenger spending 50-70 million on any of Morata, Auba or Higuain. Or anyone tbh... :(

I've said before that I don't rate him that highly, but he's the most realistic option right now. Anyone with speed and an eye for goal is by default better than Giroud, not difficult mind. I see him banging 25-30 for us with the amount of service we provide each game. I can't stomach another season with the donkey up front.

That's my belief too - for me it keeps coming back to the fact that, if we are playing a lone striker, then he sure as shit better be mobile and have some decent level of pace

If he scores 25-30 goals in his first pl season that would make him an elite striker and you would have to rate him highly to believe this.

As for the most realistic option you are probably right in that. And TBH I'd probably take a chance on him even if it's only to shake things up. I would doubt he'd get anywhere near 25-30 goals in his first season though, and if he did he'd be off to the Whores next summer for a pittance because Arsene just cannot stop bending over when they come a calling!
