So the chavs make a bid for a player on a Friday and the transfer is completed on the Saturday? Fuck that, BORING.

What you need to do is spend weeks and weeks tracking the player to see if he turns up outside your training ground with a "For Sale" sign stapled to his forehead. If that doesn't materialise you low ball the player's club with a derisory bid to see if you can antagonise them.

Once that's complete and you've both player and club well pissed off you send in another bid which, if Dick Law's been on the gin, may by some miracle be deemed acceptable. Then you dither and get cold feet for a bit before conducting an 8 week long medical at the training ground while everyone involved in the transfer slowly loses the will to live.

Then, just before you hit the press release button on Pravda to announce the signature, you get told by the player's agent in the nicest possible terms to go fuck yourself.

Absolutely agree but my issue is the way he suggests that keeping giroud is VITAL to the future prospects of our club - giroud isn't top class and never will be cos his lack of pace and the fact that he isn't a clinical finsher, will always hold him back. Yes he would be better in a 4-4-2, but he still wont be quality and he certainly isn't vital for the club or team

Sorry augie but on this occasion arseblogger is right, ditching giroud for higuian is a good deal IF at least one more quality striker arrieves before the window closes but you know that if the swap plus money deal actually happened then that would be it on the striker front leaving us with just a single striker and nobody remotely good enough to play in the first team, walnut sanogoals and Akpom!, giroud partnering a fast mobile striker in a 442 would be my choice but it'll not happen.

Giroud might be better with a striking partner but a striker who has no pace and can't finish shouldn't be a regular starter.

With the obvious flaws in the squad you would have thought Wenger would have had a target list of future signings, even a back up if they hit an issue

They just seem to drift along and see who is available, with no real intent to sign anyone

Can only go on what he has previously said that more than 2 signings can destabilise a team ( which of course is rubbish)

or he genuinely feels loyalty to his players and does not want to push them out even though this would bring about improvement

Playing Giroud as part of a 442 formation means we have to build the team to suit his deficiencies, you don't get away with that in the PL, and 442 is dead in the water these days especially with our non combative midfield.

Look at any PL-winning side in history and ask if Giroud would have gotten into their side. The answer is a conclusive no in every case.

The bottom line here is, like him or loath him, giroud is to important to lose because we won't replace him, he's the closest thing we have to a striker that MIGHT score 20 league goals in a season and therefore we have to hang on to him. Everything else is hypothetical at the moment.
