Piss takes v Pity

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Piss takes v Pity

Post by Rugby Gooner »

I know a lot of people socially, via work etc, who are not Arsenal fans, and over the years have enjoyed dishing out,(and receiving), piss takes and banter about our various teams.
What I can't stand however, is the genuine PITY that some of these people are showing towards the people they know support Arsenal.
"It must be a nightmare knowing that you will sign nobody."
" It must be shit knowing that you will bottle it at the business end of the season."
"It must be crap living the groundhog day of 4th place every year."
etc etc etc.
Even the media are joining in the "sympathy" for Arsenal supporters.

I wish the Club would actually go for it, make a couple of marquee signings, and make a real statement of intent to win stuff instead of nestling in the cosy warm duvet of mediocrity and profit. :banghead:

At least with the pity there is a recognition of what is and has been going on for years..in the past we were told how lucky we were and to be careful what we wish for...but I like all Gooners preferred when other fans and media hated us...

Be careful what you wish for.

If we "go for it" we could end up like Portsmouth, or Leeds. :barscarf:

Real fans have patience.

Got 2 sympathetic Mancs (makes me feel dirty having Manc sympathy), and 2 Geordies at work and even the relegated Geordie supporters are sympathetic to my rants about Wenger these days and express confusion how we can be one of the richest clubs in the world but try to do everything on a paupers budget, now that is embarrassing

In an Alan Partridge "can you turn the porn off on my TV" type reply, I will play the role of Ben;

"So, when you wanted to edit the post you selected the button that says 'quote' and it quoted the post. What you will have wanted to do is select the button that says 'edit'. Would you like me to come to your room and show you how to do that?"

a couple of things:
1. Stan Kroenke to be fair said earlier this year "If you want to win championships then you would never get involved"
He has made it clear he does not want to make a statement of intent and try and win things. This pressure only comes from the supporters.
Stan Kroenke is certainly not telling Wenger he has to win the league this season.

2. the majority of the Emirates crowd are also happy at not winning titles. the majority have now been so brainwashed that they are happy with a top 4 finish. this was clear last season when what should have been a protest against Wenger turned into a Wenger love in. the consequences of that reaction by the fans has resulted in the lack of activity this summer.

Until the Emirates crowd turns against Wenger in big numbers then nothing will change.
My West Ham colleague at work thinks his club will be doing better than us within 3 years. Sadly he is probably right :( Wengers Legacy :banghead:

I have Liverpool fans in work patronising me. LIVERPOOL fans. Fuckers haven't won it since 1990. They only came close to winning it ONCE in that 26 years and then their "greatest ever player" Slippy G captained a team that bottled it. Fucking idiots.

I don't take shit from any of them. The point I was trying to make is that our club, because of the way that it is run, is going beyond being a joke to being a cause for pity.

There was a Brummie plastic-Manc twat who I usually ranted to about TOF and his endless purgatory. Even he couldn't believe how much shit we put up with and how much TOF gets paid to do absolutely fuck all of use.

My Brighton pal is only partially sympathetic, saying that considering where his own team is, he'd take a VT all day - The standard answer is that it's all relative. Fans are being mercilessly fleeced for years now and we are now told, AGAIN, that we can't compete. He finds it hard to believe that TOF does nothing but passing drills in training and never instructs the players. He had also stuck up for the ear-cupper, which seems hilarious now. He did find Gazidis' latest bunch of bullshit to be staggering though. I told him it was tantamount to defrauding the supporters, the way they are sitting on the money.

I think the message is slowly getting out how unique our deliberate stagnation is. We are not spoiled Tarquins, we are legitimately frustrated at this wilful underachievement by a fraud manager and a disinterested owner.

On the flip-side, I had sympathy for Blackburn fans over the whole Steve Kean affair. That was embarrassing. The media were on Kean's side over those protests and painting the Blackburn fans as being unreasonable when their club was on a one-way ride to relegation.
