Arsenal need true warriors (13/5)

usual thread starter… I know there is disappointment at the failure to win a trophy this season, but there are a few around who know what it’s like to go 18 years without winning one. On reflection, the one thing that was better this season was that the club were genuine contenders. We were involved in the title race with half a dozen matches left as opposed to the year before when we were effectively out of it by Christmas. That made it tense, exciting and interesting, rather than the damp squib that was the first half of 2007.

As this writer confirms, sometimes you don’t realize how good you have it until you’re about to lose it. Arsenal are our team and they’ve given us the ride of our lives. Good times and bad. And the good times are all the sweeter because of the bad times. Already chomping at the bit for next season here and can’t wait to see who we bring in.

Just to be really pedantic, Kevin ('cos it's the close season), the only people around who know what's it's like to go 18 years without a trophy would had to have started watching Arsenal in 1912!

Mr Gelbag, very sad you are emigrating but anyone who thinks Theo's goal was simple in it's execution should be allowed to leave the country without protest. Thought it demonstrated a touch of class and composure for a young lad, which blistering acceleration, who has not had regular 1st team footy, particularly in a Striker role. Think it is a great sign of things to come and shows huge prospect. Shame you will be holed up in some ex pat dingy bar watching it on Icelandic TV. All the best mate!!

pedantic? erm....didn't our '89 league win come after 18yrs drought???

1989-1971 = 18 years!!

EDIT:

haha.....sorry Graham. I see your point now! 18yrs without a trophy...not league title

Sorry! maybe if I was a little more pedantic, I would have noticed my error

I said it's part of Theo's resurrection, I wasn't slating it at all! Simple doesn't mean shit!

Walcott is one of the handful of players who I really don't want us to lose, the others being Song, Clichy, Toure, Sagna, Adebayor (but needs to get more clinical), RVP (but needs to get less injured).

My random tip for a breakthrough next season is Barazite who showed great skill against Blackburn in the Carling before getting injured.

True warriors as you speak of, giants among men, are hard to find.

Steven Gerrard is the greatest example of one currently playing today.

Might Gavin Hoyte and Havard Nordveit be the same in five years time?

Hope they will.

quote]

Adebayor? did he display 'Leadership and class values' against spurs in the CC at WHL? Granted he has been banging them in this season and is a asset to the club but the fact no one seems concerned with his actions baffels me. Especially since Gallas is getting so much stick for his 'protest'. Is head butting a team mate infront of the spurs fans (only adding to our humiliation) the actions of a 'true warrior'? is this the actions we expect from somone who has arsenal in his hart? I may be going a little over the top but I think he is a discrace and I am ashamed to see him in a arsenal shirt. Rant over

Who knows what led him to do it, Bendtner is (according to some reports) an arrogant tosser. It's like when Cantona kicked that bloke in the crowd, everyone thought he was a tosser, but when people learnt more about the situation, they thought he was a legend. I did anyway.

The main problem I have with Adebayor is that he could be more clinical. Yes he's scored a lot of goals, but he's missed an incredible number of chances. His control can let him down, ball bouncing off his shins etc. Then again, the goal he scored against Spurs in the league at WHL is one of the best I've seen, so there is no doubt that he is talented. He just needs to do it more consistently.

.
Remember when Kolo Toure pushed Freddie Ljungberg in the middle of a game during an argument?

No one gave Kolo stick for that because it was not scrutinised as much by the tv.

Players come to blows sometimes, and with two players such as Ade and Bendtner, who both want to be the mai man, it is not a surprise.
