Clash wrote:Nothing makes any individual bigger than a football club .... so to claim someone is close to that status after winning just 3 titles in 20 years is beyond risible. But its no surprise to hear this from Keown.

Keown sounds like some sort of droid. There is no emotion or passion in the way he talks. Its just a monotone, almost robotic voice programmed to repeat the soundbites that have been fed to him.

I still wonder if his private views might be totally different. But even if they are that makes him an even bigger part of the problem because the likes of Keown and most of the people inside football cannot or will not bite the hand that feeds them.

Unfortunately it is now part of the media's job to distort the reality and delude the public into thinking everything in the game is bigger and brighter than ever before.

It simply isnt true though. The game is one giant marketing rip-off. And Arsenal and Wenger take this to an extreme. We are a worse off club for whats happened in the last 10 years but the spin is that we've never had it better than this.

Anyone with any sense can see there is no substance behind the hype. The game deliberately became more plastic for the plastics that it wanted to attract.

There is a widening gulf between those inside the game (owners, players, coaches, media/pundits etc.) and those on the outside (the fans). And those in power will do all they can do to keep it that way. Ultimately of course, the real real power lies with the fans so they need to keep that power suppressed.

It is almost like some sort of masonic society. A brotherhood where you put up this false facade of rivalry between the media and the players/managers but in reality are protecting each other from those that are not part of the inner circle.

Its seems there is some sort of unwritten rule or limit on how far you can go with the criticism or the honesty because they all need each other. Thats why punditry is so bland. You might get the odd loose cannon like that idiot Robbie Savage but he is still just part of the charade. They're all in it together and we (the fans) are kept at a distance .... even though we subsidise the whole damn circus like we always have done.

And the tragic thing is that far from being bigger than the club, Wenger has become a massive hindance to it. He is dragging us down and has been holding the club back for over a decade. He is a poisonous leech, just like his boss and all his minions in the stands and in the media that protect him!

After the Leicester game when the camera focused on the bloke with the Wenger out banner, it got mentioned in the studio and Ian Wright contemptuously dismissed it with "it's just one guy".... That is how out of touch they are with us, how far removed they are from understanding how infuriated we are. Seriously some of these pundits seem to think we are a trifle annoyed that Wenger is dragging his feet in the market. It goes so much deeper than that. This is years & years of sustained abuse at the hands of Wenger and those who now run OUR club!! Wenger has caused seemingly reasonable people to feel a deep and abiding hatred for him... without inflicting physical or emotional harm on people that is quite a difficult thing to do.

Mind you some would argue the emotional harm he inflicts on us is ongoing.......

Keown :banghead:

He's absolutely gone native. He sounds like a PR man for Wenger. Some of the drivel he came out with during that BT discussion with Piers Morgan was laughable.

100% mate.

Wrighty is a #flipflopping arsehole, who half the time spouts shit just to hear himself talk.
And as for Keown, what a complete arselicking dickhead. As you say hes been defending Wenger for years. He can go fuck himself the prick.

The other thing about Keown that is often forgotten is he fucked off to join Villa at around the time Stewart Robson signed for West Ham.

Robson still gets stick about this when he is quoted in the press but I've never seen Keown get the same treatment. Maybe because he came back several years later but that doesnt change the fact he chose to leave the club too.

Gems so far:
"look at the money being pumped into other Premier League clubs now. Arsenal aren't really getting this"

"the Financial Fair Play regulations were lifted and Arsenal can no longer sit at the same table as Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea"

"They say no man is bigger than a club, but when it comes to Wenger and Arsenal, it’s a very close call."

Absolute fucking bollocks. Apologist prick :banghead:

Holy H Chryst - I can barely believe it - I always thought of Keown as 'one of us' - He has departed the side of the angels and gone to the side of Profit.

A sad, sad day.
He's been like it for a while unfortunately - check out this discussion with Piers Morgan (yes, I know he's a crunt ) and a few others https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7KpyNmubd8. In typical AKB fashion, Keown has an answer (read: excuse) for literally everything. My personal favorite "Wenger commands a steady ship" - fuck right off mate :banghead:
As much as Piers Morgan is a preck he does call it like it is....

I would love to have him and Jacqui Oatley to a hot seat interview with wenger and gazidis and watch wenger & gazidis Squirm....make the ceunts sweat Big time.

For me the dream started to turn sour in 2007 and has gradually gotten worse since. :| :x

I would say great post but its too sad for that. Very well put though mate, I agree with every word and think you've got summed it up perfectly.

I second that.

many a night spent in a near empty Highbury, it wasn't always full, just proper gooners. Hardly ever won, didn't give a shit cos we was all in it together, we would sing their name before every game waiting for the wave, nothing better than a cold wet Highbury night game in the winter, fucking loved it...

So glad I got those memories

Indeed, there may have only been 20,000 - 30,000 but they were there to watch the match and support the team not be seen to be "at the Arsenal" on their facebook page or Instagram or what ever.

They sold their soul and now have the type of supporter they targeted, they arrive late, sit in silence, wait to be entertained then leave early to avoid the queues.
Great posts chaps, i am old school like yourselves and it's true many of our midweek cup ties produced very small crowds but the one thing those fans had was passion for the team, there were no fans leaving the ground early in those days. I remember us playing dirty Leeds on freezing cold snowy Tuesday night me and my mates bombarding the small Leeds section on the Clock end with snowballs.

getting the impression keown is angling for a role at the club or something the way his tongue is perenially locked into place several inches into clueless's rectal passage. if that ain't his angle then it's just a scary devotion

some of his comments are pretty disrespectful to the club but for some reason i don't really care what keown says, like others have said he isn't really an Arsenal man like wrighty or adams so it's just a bit meh to me.

Can remember my 1St ever game like it was yesterday. Goose pimples bang on 3 oclock every other Saturday. Stood on the north bank on the high concrete barrier and railings by West stand.

Looking over at the middle of the North bank, everyone singing and surging (peanuts roasted peanuts bellowing out with the sellar and large brown cloth sack full of percy daltons.... The smell of beer and fags....... ... The odd pocket of fans being lead back from an assault charge on the clockend away section.... Being clapped back on to the terracing....... .... If I could have wish... Id choose any home game 1977 - 1983 all day long......

Keown grew up on the North Bank, he's a Gooner through and through. Don't forget he's worked with Wenger closely so I doubt he's got a bad word to say about him, in public.

Arsene Wenger today admitted that he had misjudged this summer's transfer window, telling reporters at his Friday press conference

add that to all the other mistakes he has made :D

He is so in control and comfortable in his role, he is bullet proof, totally unaccountable.....absolutely ridiculous state of affairs

Couldn't agree more - having a debate with a half reasonable akb (one who defends the c.unt whilst also acknowledging some faults) is fine by me, but those two crunts either are on the wind up or they really haven't got a Scooby doo  Anyone know if these people are schoolkids or maybe newbee's ? I refuse to believe that any long term/older Gooners could blindly 100% take that position

think the 2 owners are 'progressive' liberal luvvies who claim to be long term fans but i reckon jumped on when football got all fashionable amongst the true middle classes in the mid/ late 90's, around fever pitch time. like the character in harry enfield and friends with the hamper in the crowd at arsenal games

From what I heard, Robson fell out with GG right away and left the club. Keown was turned down for a pay-rise (GG was infamously tight with player wages) and decided to leave. I get the impression Keown never liked GG much, despite returning to the club. He's clearly in love with TOF though, whereas Robson is the only ex-player who has the balls to give TOF both barrels.

Nope. TOF wouldn't give him a coaching job after the CL run in 2006. It really IS scary devotion from Keown :?

I know that Keown loves TOF, but these recent comments are too far now. I have lost a lot of respect for him. I'd have loved him to join the coaching staff, but we now know he'd happily be a yes-man to TOF instead of ironing out our pampered pussies.
