The ''no one is coming'' Transfer Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Really? I won't blame the manager. He's got what we need, what we've been asking for all summer. I still think the board had something to do with the delays.
Mustafi replaced BFG in the world cup winning German team. We got a striker who outscored Sanchez and Giroud, whilst playing for a team that struggle to create opportunities. And a DM with a disciplinary record Vieira would be proud of, and seems like a no nonsense player.
No I don't think we'll get Draxler or Rodriguez but they would make fantastic additions to the squad.
Mate, that is stretching horsehit to its limit!

The facts tell a different story. He "outscored" Giroud in the league once over the last 4 seasons (since Giroud joined us). Giroud scored 11, 16, 14, 16 to Perez's 8, 9, 6, 17 in the corresponding seasons. If Giroud doesn't score enough and is not good enough (he doesn't and he ain't) then how is Perez "what we need" based on ONE season?? :|

Hopefully he will come good and be the striker we need, but as is he is NOT the proven 20+ PL goal a season striker that we actually do need. So for me Wenger has not delivered that requirement at all. He has delivered a long shot, a possibility, and nothing more.
It was Perez' first season as the main striker. His stats could be a lot different had he been playing there several years ago.
Could be, should be, would be, yadda yadda. What difference does that make to the basic point - that point being we needed a proven 20+ league goals a season type striker to replace Giroud and Wenger went and bought an (as yet) unproven striker. I'm all for building a squad, and Perez may be a good addition to a squad, but you also have to address the urgent needs of the first team as well. Our most urgent need is that top striker we lack.

I'd also question your assertion that it was his "first season as the main striker". What position was he playing in during 17 league games in 2013 and 32 league games in 2014 and 21 league games in 2015?
Because you're shitting on the fella for something out of his control. You were bringing up his poor stats and I told you why the ''striker'' doesn't have a more impressive goal tally. Why are you crying over the fact we didn't sign someone like Griezmann? It was never going to happen, Perez is the typical Wenger signing, the type of budget player he loves. People wind themselves up on here at the fact we didn't sign a world class striker, you only have yourselves to blame when you know damn well what Wenger does.

He was playing on the wing mostly. This is not my opinion, numerous articles and journalists have said the same thing.
I think you might be getting a bit sensitive there, mate. I'm not "shitting" on him by stating the obvious - he is not a proven striker. Doesn't matter whose "fault" that is. It's a fact. He's not. Not yet anyway. And I'm certainly not "crying" over not signing a top striker - I absolutely 100% knew we wouldn't. We are discussing it. I take it is still ok to discuss these things yeah?

You're hilarious - you'll defend him and talk him up and then give him a silly derogatory nickname when (if) he turns out to be no better than Giroud! Not having a pop at you, but you're accusing me of going over the top by discussing the pros and cons of such a signing at this stage in the season.

Gotta agree with this mainly. Everyone here was slating Wenger for not having other options in the transfer market past his first choice. Now he has bought someone who clearly wasn't his first choice and everyone is slating him for it.

Give the guy a chance (Perez) before saying how we needed this or that. We could have gone out and flogged whatever money on Greizmann and he came here and sh*t the bed like most defenders that we buy (because they are exposed in Wengers system). I am willing to let him bed in and see what he has to offer.

Hopefully, this is the last season that we have of Wenger and then we can move on to a new hope - - - (drum roll please) Eddie Howe

Still no world class striker? Carry on 8)

It's ridiculous that our cash-rich club still makes these 'moneyball' signings. Like a millionaire shipping at Lidl.

I would argue, we haven't actually signed a striker in this transfer window. Perez will be another Podolski, and will be played out of position. There is zero chance of Wenger dropping Giroud, no matter how shit he is. Barring an injury to Giroud, I don't see Perez getting much time as a striker.

I've decided they are saving the money for our new manager, to buy the world class striker of his choice, next summer.
It makes the the situation almost enjoyable :D

very dissapointing if gnabry is sold, when he came in to the side he looked very good beating playings scaring them by running at them and being direct. i think could be a big mistake letting him go.
Why is it disappointing?
He's contributed less than the Ox for Arsenal. He had a good Olympics but not much else.
And how many opportunities has he had for us? To my mind he performed well in an Arsenal shirt before being cast aside for the returning Walcott, Chamberlain, Gervinho etc. Whilst they performed woefully, he was sent out on a disastrous loan spell that wrote off a chunk of his development by sending him to get humiliated and shat on by the biggest philistine in PL management.

I think the guy showed more than enough to merit an opportunity ahead of the above players and it's a great shame that wasn't given that.

When does this embarrassment of a window close tonight? 11pm? Midnight? Not that it's important to our club or anything...

I'm sure the mods can't wait to lock this fucker. Surely all transfer threads should be banned until the transfer window is open. 234 pages of frustration and masochism so far :banghead:

Fair dos, fella 8)

It is so frustrating seeing us still shopping for not-quite-good-enough players, considering what the club charge supporters and the amount of money they are sitting on :banghead:

I'm also sad we've sold Gnabry. I watched a bit of the Olympic football, and he was good. Scoring for fun. It seems we don't tolerate that at Arsenal anymore. He probably should have been loaned out, but not sold.

We live in a world where Sadio Mane costs 36m and Benteke goes for 26m. Higuain's value more than doubled in 2 years despite him pushing towards 30. This is the world we live in and we either play along or continue to float well adrift.

If we continue to buy strikers in the 10-16m bracket then we can continue to expect the same sort of goalscoring return we've been getting. It's pennies for a top club to spend on a front-line striker.

Do we need Sturidge? Another injury prone player. Oops just answered my own question. Of course we do all injuries welcome at Burke & Hares medical practitioners.

He might be considered a disruptive member or whatever else people were saying about him elsewhere on here but he's a striker (supposedly) and if it's only a loan take the fucker ffs. if he sits on the bench and only plays a handful of games at least it gives us a further option.
