True attendance figures

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

True attendance figures

Post by StuartL »

angryofislington.com has apparently got hold of the figures given by the club to the police

quite a few matches where the actual attendance was several thousand short of capacity (even when the tickets had been sold ) which is possibly even worse as it means people had bought tickets but couldn't be arsed to attend.

A disgrace that so many games have "fans" that don't bother to turn up, let friends / family have their tickets (this used to be easier when you could just tear out the ST voucher at Highbury, now you have to arrange to meet up & collect the membership cards) or even bother to put the unwanted tickets on the ticket exchange. :banghead:

Meanwhile there are many fans who want to go more games, silver & red members who get shut out. :banghead:

Time for the club to offer PL only season tickets as an option, or even perhaps don't reissue new ST's when current fans give them up. Cut the number of ST's in the ground. :barscarf:

There should be much more tickets available for silver & red members who struggle to get tickets for many games whilst paying £50plus just to be a member before even buying a match ticket. :cussing:

Which is what all the other clubs do - the cup matches are not included (to the best of my knowledge)

It's ridiculous that the club lie about attendances. They don't even announce them at the ground anymore due to the derision shown at their barefaced lies.

Wasn't there a story a couple of years ago that a shocking number of people bought club level season tickets and only used it for one game? Prawn sandwich wankers. The club don't care as long as they take the coin.

Added to that their scumbag match categories. They won't even do a full season announcement on categories.

One of the rituals we had in the terrace days at Highbury was who could get closest to guessing the attendance. It was somewhat ruined when it became all-seater and was 38k every week.

Sums up the modern Arsenal that they would firstly distort the attendance and then stop announcing it all together. Quite laughable really.

There used to be a fair few packed to the rafters matches, when it was standing on the terrace, where the official attendance was laughably announced a several thousand lower (certainly not for tax avoidance reasons)

Indeed :)
I also remember a couple of times in the late 80s that before the attendance was announced the Police estimate of the number locked out was also given. Both against Liverpool I think - one midweek league cup replay and one on the opening day of the season when a dozen or so fans climbed onto the North Bank roof.

Also remember two massive crowds in the space of 4 days in 1988 against Man United and Everton in the FA cup and League cup where Im pretty sure the crowd was bigger than the official attendance.

I remember them well, think was the Liverpool match where I literally could not move, anywhere, for the duration of the game, was all part of the matchday experience (lol) but certainly wasn't comfortable or safe.
