As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Spurs wages model is a lesson , not that they should be a role model in anything but they dont pay the ridiculous wages to crap/average/unproven players we do. thats the only credit i will give that horrendous club.
WTF
And what exactly have Spurs won in recent memory? Yeah, FUCKING NOTHING. They do NOT have the model to win trophies.
im beginning to see why NFG made his comments! calm down chum.
its not about what they have won, its about paying crap players too much money, meaning theres not enough left (or enough that AW is willing to give) to the big big players we have or potential signings.
Its changing at the scum now as their dishing out payrises to all and sundry, but their 'stars' are not on big wages based on media reports, the figures bandied around are no where near what we are paying some of our crap.
I maintain in this spurs are a lesson in not paying unproven overhyped players to much before they have proven they are worth it. mong face took a couple of v good seasons to get a decent (in football terms) pay rise yet is still on less than wally and lamppost.
You see this is the American angle, a lot of their sports have salary caps so it's not surprising that you get these sorts of views from the other side of the pond.
We do give our US cousins a hard time, but it serves them right for even considering Trump as President imo .

I cast my mind back to late 1971 when the great Alan Ball (rip) transferred from Everton for a record British £220,000 move to Arsenal with his wee white booties.
They all talk about dosh, they see wiggy and co draw in obscene amounts of cash, new tv money, CL money, highest seat prices in the land along with so many other deals the club draws in, and yes they are fully entitled to their slice of the action as it is they and not Donald Trump's double who inspire the club.
There is no model in this, it is just plain common sense, perhaps they should take a look around and see what they actually pay complete wastes of space and make economies there in order to keep the cream at the club.
Again I do not feel they are greedy, I feel they have a justifiable argument, and if those tight bastards feck it up, they should be lined up and shot....
Which world class players ? I would argue that we only have ONE (ozil) in our squad

Not Giroud, huh?
All opinions at the end of the day, if you do not think Sanchez is world class then that's your view....

Don't really like the term world class because people get strangely defensive over exactly what it means.
The reality is Sanchez is quality, pulls us through games, would do even more with better team-mates, is one of the best players in the league and miles better than anybody we could get to replace him.
Not particularly important whether that fits somebody's perception of "world class".

Fair play! purely based on regularly representing their nation on the world stage, not fringe players either...

Offer 250,000euros a week, as they are concerned about the loss of £ value, and say if they win us the league and champions league we'll give them dollars.
DB10GOONER wrote:Pay them. I have always taken the position that we pissed away millions on high wages for shit players like Song, Hleb, Almunia, Denilson, Vela etc.
For me it is better to have a moderate size squad of very highly paid top quality players rather than a huge squad of relatively highly paid shit.
This makes sense, although the amounts are obscene.
Many are missing the point with Bellerin, and underestimating him. Sure he has potential, but even as a player right now, is hands down the best right back in the league. Bellerin's potential is to be as good a right back Dani Avles or Cafu. Where as Walcott's or Chamberlains potential, is to be above average wide players and England internationals. Potential is not a blanket statement. All young players have potential, but some have a much higher glass ceiling than others. And Bellerin has a very high glass ceiling - as great as he is know, he can be so much more.
Bellerin is worth 100k a week. Like I said before, we can stick to 'principle' and not offer him 100k a week, or we can take the moral high ground when City and Barcelona offer him 100k a week, and let him leave and go on to develop into the next Dani Alves/Cafu at a rival club.
I remember the last wing back we let go because we wouldnt pay up. Ashley Cole. Sure we all hate him. But lets not kid ourselves, whilst we were whinging and moaning and drowning in self pity, he was lifting PL and CL trophies.
