Anyway to get back to on track -

Starting both Coquelin and Elneny away to Barca is a decent way to set yourself up to be compact and hard to break down, starting them home to Boro makes absolutely no sense.

The bench on Saturday (Gibbs, Ospina, Ox, Maitland-Niles, Perez, Gabriel, Reine Adelaide) doesn't exactly give you much in the way of a Plan B if you're struggling to make the breakthrough. Again it was the 70th minute before we made a change  firing on the only 2 attacking options Perez (beginning to wonder what the point of signing him actually was) and Ox.

Giroud, when fit  , will make the most difference here as he does present a completely different option to Wanka's beloved midget ball.
But only IF Giroud is on form. If he is like he was the whole second half of last season we may as well have a... well... a lampost up there...  And even when he is on form he's gonna get us the prize total of about 15 PL goals. :|

Yes, I still cannot believe Wenger did not buy a proven 20+ PL goal striker. And yes, I can easily believe Wenger did not buy a proven 20+ PL goal striker. :x

A bit boring but I'd get the defence to drop back and just keep passing the ball between them. After a few minutes the other team will start pushing up trying to win possession, then hit of the counter. A bit of discipline and patience is required , although not a great spectacle. Or long ball it to the wings, not through the middle, puts pressure on the full backs and they will start to panic and get frustrated as they can't attack and keep losing possession. It will have the CB's pulling out wide just to stop the full backs being done in the air all the time, creating space in the middle.

How about if you manage to get the ball in the box through passing to a team mate
20 times you are awarded a penalty :barscarf: ( just an ideal)

Get goal side of your marker and it creates panic and chaos in the other team.
You beat your man, and charge toward the box, suddenly a player has to come across in cover, and the integrity of the teams shapes comes undone.
absolutely...if you beat a player you are then pulling others out of a defensive position, one will move to cover allowing space......and then require quick accurate passing

get round the back of them, but then you need a wide man who can deliver....overlap with full backs providing an option

But then again Wenger Mr 30 years in football thinks you play 2 DMs and continually pass the ball sideways, think he is trying to bore the opposition to defeat

I think we've covered it all here. It is tiresome to see us being nullified for years by a parked bus. I fucking hate this sideways football.

As others have said, we should take players on and go past them. Get in behind them. Or play deep and invite them onto us, before counter-attacking. We've seen a few breakaway goals this season. I wish we could get back to that style of play when we won things.

Nope. It's aesthetics and possession over goals for TOF. These past eight years have been a criminal waste of time, money and (some) talent. Fuck attempting to play like Barca, I want us to play like Arsenal.

Wouldn't mind seeing the likes of Xhaka, Elneny and Özil try and take some pops from 25 yards. If we had a few shots from outside the box in the first 30 minutes it would plant the idea in the opposition's head for the rest of the game that we're not just going to be doing tippy tappy around the box. Draws them out, maybe you get a deflection or a rebound.

We certainly posses players now capable of a decent long range effort.

The other thing that hasn't been mentioned is sheer pressure, fire the ball in, with bodies in the box, make the defence panic, force an error, an o.g is still a goal - we never seen to have enough bodies in the box.

Last 10 mins just lay siege , stick Mustafi up top if Giroud is still out with his tongue strain.
We are just so predictable.
