Evans, and his mate, roll up to a hotel room and fuck an unconscious girl without so much as a hello and then disappear sharpish.

It may not be rape (as was found in court), but it's pretty fucking low-bottom scumbaggery at best.

I find it astonishing that anyone thinks Evans' behaviour was anything other than contemptible.

Not one person here has suggested that it wasn't - however what some (including myself) are saying, is that regardless of how shameful their conduct was, it still doesn't make them guilty of rape and that is what this thread was about.
If people want to morally judge their actions then that is ok with me, but people also have to accept and acknowledge that every weekend there are guys shagging the brains out of drunk women all over the world, and those people should be judged the same as footballers

Indeed they should be. And if a non footballer goes into a hotel room to shag a girl that his friend picked up before sneaking out of said hotel without uttering a word to the girl, then I wouldn't be surprised to hear that case went to court as well!

That's the crux of it. Would anyone on here, hand on heart, do what Evans did? Your mate texts you, says I've got a pissed up bird here, you lie your way into the hotel, sneak in the room, don't communicate verbally with an obviously pissed up bird, plough her and then sneak out the back door? I fucking know I wouldn't.

Also - just to clarify again; he wasn't found innocent, he was found "not guilty". If the judge or jury are not convinced beyond a reasonable doubt, then they have to deliver a verdict of "not guilty". This does not mean that the defendant is innocent. It means only that the prosecution did not convince the judge or jury beyond a reasonable doubt.
