As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

And why would that be?
Are you wanting to rest players for the annual last 16 humiliation in February?

The sooner the club loses supporters like you the better

It was his mistake big time for their second goal.
I was sat right behind him when he basically didn't put his boot in hard enough and missed the tackle on a Southampton player. They then strolled through to score. I watched Ramsey give a little shrug and then he ambled back to the half way line. He and the rest of the team did not give a shit tonight.

In the 30+ years following Arsenal I have seen few worse performances than tonight.

Put out a sh*t side against the likes of Forest you get away with it. Against Southampton you won't. Anyone without 30 years experience can see that.

Well I tried.....tried to recreate something special from 30 years ago. Had managed to convince my eldest lad about how great this cup could be with stories of beating the Scum at the Lane, Liverpool at Wembley etc. Took him up there tonight......greasy spoon dinner on the Holloway Road, talk of an away trip to either OT or Anfield for the 2 legged semi, and a trip to Wembley to see the Gooners win a cup in the flesh.

Then, the reality struck. An atmosphere like the departure lounge of an international airport, a manager pretending he gives a fuck about the competition, and a bunch of "never will be's" running around aimlessly alongside supposed senior players like Ramsey and Gibbs who were about as much fucking use as a trap door on a canoe.

What an absolute waste of time, and as predicted the Groundhog has returned. Free now to concentrate on the wet dream of a night in Basle to secure 2nd place in the group with the promise of a March-time hammering by a team beginning with 'B' most likely. That's about it for me until the FA Cup starts in January.

The attitude and performance of every single player tonight with the exception of Iwobi, and when they came on Ox and Maitland-Niles, was disgusting. Some just aren't good enough - Martinez, Jenkinson, Elneny - sorry lads, at your ages you should try and make it elsewhere because you ain't good enough. As for that crock of shit we paid £17m for up front? My god, words fail me. Spent the entire game hiding in between their 2 centre halves and offered absolutely nothing - no doubt another cheap, no-mark, foreign waster who thinks that the competition is beneath him.

Tried to turn the clock back and give us something to look forward to in January, but sadly nobody else involved with the club seems to care about it

That's something I noticed too. I don't think we can single out wenger for not respecting the competition-no premier league sides do!
What I do have an issue with is how shit our second string side is compared to years ago when we had the likes of fabregas and Walcott coming through

That was fucking hard work.
Poses serious concerns about the depth of our squad.

If Wenger clearly demonstrates tonight was down in his list of priorities, then the players and fans will follow with such an attitude.

Can't we ask Ramsey to wear a Welsh shirt under his Arsenal top?? He got his Number 10 position and played shite.

Saying all that, and I'm arguing against myself here, beat West Ham on Saturday (which we will), then tonight will be largely forgotten about.
I don't care what anyone says, Saturday's game is more important than this evening.
We need to get some momentum going in the league in the build up to xmas.

Word for word how I'm feeling after that game. The manager and the players just can't be bothered with the competiton so why should I.

I think we all could have seen this coming. Didn't this almost exact result happen in this competition against the same opponent a couple of years ago?

I would like to think even the board can see results like this, especially against a well run and organised side like Southampton, and see that Wenger's time has to be coming to an end. There is some talk, probably unfounded but at least gets the hopes up, about the club sounding out the RB Leipzig boss about the job should Wenger not renew. Wenger keeps the club in the top four but progression beyond that is beyond him and I just pray they can see that. They must know that people can only be fed the top four gig for so long, much like people are now getting fed up with a 12th year or whatever it is of Call of Duty every November, it will breed a sense of contempt if we are still seeing the same things in 3 years time, i.e. Hurting the 'brand' which is how the majority owners see it.

As for the rest of us who actually bother to watch the actual football, tonight is only another example of how stale things are, and how certain players like Jenkinson and Ramsey just aren't good enough.

I don't agree with whoever said this cup doesn't matter. We haven't won it since the Morrow final, and only twice in our history. Frankly I'd bloody live to see us win it and it is another great opportunity gone.

His disciples will always see top four as an achievement. While this exist, there is no hope.

Well if it's any consolation, Liverpool would have destroyed our reserves over 2 legs because you just know TOF would have sent the same shower of shite out again, playing the same way with the same subs at the same times, I am so tired of his shit!

I could rationalise tonight, if I thought that it would help us in our title challenge in the new year, but we all know that we won't be challenging. It's laughable to think we pissed away a real chance of a trophy, so we can concentrate on the VT. This used to be a club that winning was everything, now we have a loser manager with a group of players who don't seem to give a fuck. It honestly makes me question what's the point in supporting a club, with such a pathetic mind set.

It not's the recurring pattern of false dawn and missed opportunities, it's not the imminent epic collapse that is coming in December, it's not the mediocrity of 90% of our squad nor the failure to address the issues which have re-occurred the past 10 years. No for me I know Wenger's time is up because of the absolute tosh that pours from his mouth whenever he speaks. Remember when he was a joy to listen to, witty, intelligent and insightful. Now everything has the same tone as a politician, rehearsed turgid bollocks that doesn't mean anything.

To be fair he is probably ready to quit but for the past 5 years has been thinking "fuck it, ok one more season, another 10million in the bank then I'll retire". No one has the balls to tell him enough is enough but I think he is ready to give it up. If you were in his shoes you'd probably do the same - treading water until the next pay day, we've all done that at some point I think.
