THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Yep a photo to be really proud of - a bloke who spent 2 years out on loan and has since become our 3rd choice right back, Twirly with his one good season in 8, a bloke on loan at Bournemouth, our reserve left back and a guy we spent £15m quid on who isn't deemed worthy of a place in either our PL or League Cup starting XI.

Halcyon days

I thought we'd already decided a tree stump would be better than OGL, so a qualified manager of any calibre is not to be sniffed at :barscarf:

The bookies have Eddie Howe as favorite to replace Wenger.

Id rather Ralph Hasenhuttl before Howe. Infact, I would name 20 managers before Howe.

The entitlement society is still strong in England. What has Eddie Howe done to be worthy of being considered above Koeman, Bilic or Ranieri? Aside form being English and playing 'attacking football'. Lets not hire the new Brendan Rodgers.

I've looked up the career of this Hasenhutti bloke today - fuck me, he is the Eddie Howe of Germany, so how on earth he is more entitled I can't follow. Until 2015 he'd spent his coaching / management career entirely in the lower divisions of German football. Then he did a Howe, and got Ingolstadt promoted and had one mid table finish in the Bundesliga. Then he jumped ship for bankrolled Leipzig

Hardly a glittering CV up until 2-3 years ago - would be more of a gamble than Howe as far as I can see. No experience outside of Germany/Austria either.

I take it you wouldn't want Arsenal to make a move for Pochettino for fear of screwing up your favourite team's progress?

You obviously do not know the difference between SH I T (brendan rodgers) and Young man with oodles of potential to be a very good manager in the future (Eddie Howe)... Now why? Oh! Why doesn't that surprise me or anyone else on this forum!?

The papers are already saying this morning that after the WH demolition (masterminded by Wenger they added) Arsenal are showing they are a force to be reckoned with and don't expect Wenger to go quietly.

Don't they learn, doesn't anybody?? We have been here so many times and 90% of us on here will tell you how it will play out....... By the end of Feb we will be out of all competitions and too far adrift in the league to catch up. Focus will then turn to CL qualification which is going to be a battle this season. I think Spurs will be there, Pep has seen where he needs to strengthen and will do so in January (Wenger will declare he has what he needs,so no need to waste money), Liverpool won't go away, neither will Chelsea and United might even come good. So all the focus will be on 4th and the fans attention will turn to that..... when/if we get it, cue raucous celebration and the season declared a "success." Give that man a new contract.

Would love Howe if its to replace Wenger, just think Wenger might have a say in his transition, and stay on looking over his shoulder all the time

As for the Austrian guy....he may have CL experience next year as RBL are doing well at present

Going to be a gamble either way...but the sure bet is an improvement on Wenger...we have to move on

Already called it mate - look at the April fixtures. Once City have shrugged us off, it's West Ham, Palace, Boro and Sunderland in quick succession and ready to save his arse one more time. The last April game is at the Lane and I reckon will see us scrape the draw we need to finish above them one more time and glorify this endless cycle of boring CL qualification. I honestly think that Wenger owes the Spuds a massive amount of thanks dating back to 2006 when they became our CL qualification rivals time after time. If we'd been scraping 3rd or 4th place finishes above anyone else those final day celebrations would have been dampened down a lot and more people would see it for the abject failure that it is

I have no interest in giving the role to a young inexperienced manager who has proven nothing.

There is Simeone and Low who would be at the top of my list. Then there is more realistic targets who would jump at the chance to manage us, such as Koeman or Mancini.

But Eddie Howe is no more deserving than any other young manager who got his team promoted and plays an attacking brand of football. His teams are also rubbish defensively.

The only reason Howe gets a mention, is because there is a fascination with young British managers who play attacking football, and sections of the media think British managers should be given preference over foreign managers.

Eddie Howe is no worse no better than Roberto Martinez.
