usual thread starter… bloody pampered footballers eh? For Flamini to talk about pain in this way is an insult to his former team-mate now seeing if his leg will recover sufficiently to allow him to even play again.
Their brains sure are in their boots, possibly explaining the phenomenon whereby they talk out of their arses?
McLintock could teach Flamini what pain really means (14/5)

I am always sceptical when footballers are quoted.
Remember those summers when we used to get Vieira "quotes" about how he wanted to leave, but he would stay, and the "quote" would be denied by him?
I am not so sure Flamini said these things, though if any poster here has him on tv saying that, then of course he really did!
Flamini is a hardman. Hard as nails. Slight of frame but fearless on the pitch.
He has that Corsican/Southern French mentality that Cantona had.
Ready for a fight.
I am not going to lose respect of his playing style on the basis of those comments.

Quartz may not be convinced but having lived through those lean times too - including Swindon, I agree, Adrian, with everything you say about Frank McClintock.
I'm sorry the Flaminal felt he needed to say what he did as it will colour my memory of a guy who actually did come from almost nothing at Arsenal to a key member of a nearly title winning squad.
As regards pain, I guess you could add Bob Wilson to that from the '71 team - a brave goalkeeper who never shirked a one-on-one regardless of the opposition or conditions and a man who has lived through real personal pain to create the Willow Foundation. What will you create from your pain Matty? OK, a few million euros...but so what?

To be fair to Flamini, if he was offered a contract earlier he would have signed it - but he was left dangling with his contract running down.
Doesn't exactly make you feel wanted does it ?
Frank Mc Lintock is certainly an " Arsenal Man" but having read his book recently, he was quite honest that in his early days here in the mid sixties we were shit and he asked for a transfer.
All Flamini has done is work out his contract and not sign a new one - which was more down to Arsene / Arsenal than him, by the time Arsenal decided to offer a worthwhile deal he had attracted the attention of Milan, Juve etc and by courting him, showing they wanted him more than Arsenal did. (the odd £,0000 extra per week probably helped too mind)

If he did say what was reported, he could have shown some of Frank's spirit and attempted to put things right next season. Wenger's (alleged) comment to him at the end of last season about proving himself rather than making an offer at the time was fair enough as he hadn't done that at the club so far - his best form being the CL run at full-back.
Fair play to Flamini he has proved himself this season, and he's made the choice to move on, probably for the money as much as anything else.
First thing he's got to deal with now is the pain of playing in the 2nd rate UEFA cup rather than the Champs League after today's results in Italy. Never mind.
