THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

You can see why they might move for Wenger alright :coffeespit:
To be fair Rodders, you'd have a similar record to that if you managed Barca as well (or Real, Bayern or Juve for that matter).
Rodders to Barca :barscarf:

I was (obviously) taking the piss saying Barcelona would be keen on Wenger but I now see the AKB simpletons all over twatter soiling their panties at the prospect of it.

As fucking if. They'd have the white handkerchiefs out for him over there quicker than he could say "little bit jaded physically" after a 4-1 defeat to Granada

Wenger to Barca :barscarf:
Sadly it will probably be Allegri to Barcelona.
Pochettino is favourite for the role, or Seville's manager, the ex Chilean national team manager.

Arsenal could lose 6-1 and Wenger would get a four year deal.
Which is effectively what happened that season when he presided over the 6-3 5-1 6-0 (that's almost a tennis score).

He also suggested that we'd win the title by the end of his 2014-17 contract.

For the craic I voted yes in the poll asking if he would win the league by the end of his current contract - surprisingly 67% voted that he would win the league by now :coffeespit: :coffeespit: :coffeespit:

Wenger at his press conference this morning:

I've been here for 20 years and had the opportunity many times to leave. My preference has always been Arsenal, but I am objective enough to make the right decision for myself and the club."

so he wants to stay...

This is what's worrying from SSN

"Wenger plays down Barca link
Arsene Wenger insists he is "not looking for jobs at other clubs" after being linked with taking over from Luis Enrique at Barcelona."

Unfortunately I believe this.

Unfortunately I believe this.
Clubs play down Wenger link
Top clubs insist that "they are not looking to employ Arsene Wenger, in any capacity, EVER"

After the Bayern debacle, I foolishly allowed myself to believe he was leaving. He looked a broken, beaten man.
Since then, there's been rumours mysteriously surfacing linking him to psg, Barca and china...obvious pr from the club before he signs the new contract.
These protests need to work...or we are fucked. :(

Wenger's impeccable timing kicked in again. Firstly the next fixture we had was away to non-league opposition. Then there was a break when we had no game at all because of the EFL cup final and in that time Ranieri's sacking then became the big story.

Worse still, Liverpool's defeat to the remarkably rejuvenated (be careful what you wish for) Leicester has put Klopp as much under the microscope as Wenger ahead of the weekend.

Sky have Super Sunday, BT Sport marketing executives should be promoting this as Sack Race Saturday Showdown

What I love is that Klopp was hailed as the Liverpool Moses who would lead them to the promised land .
This is a millstone around the mousers neck because they have bought into the Klopp myth and heavily invested their hopes and dreams in him .
Now these loyal fans can turn on a sixpence but if they do they will have to acknowledge to themselves that they were wrong and the glory days will not return under the charismatic German .
They will try and get Rafa back if the ship hits the rocks again ,oh what a circus !

Think it's a bit harsh on Klopp to be honest. He hasn't yet had a full season with them and while they are still very erratic and defensively suspect they have improved under him to the extent that in that short time they have got to a Europa Cup Final, EFL Final and are now banging on the door for a top four spot. He also has a very decent record against the big teams since taking over.

Wenger's trajectory has been going slowly but surely in the opposite direction over the past decade (or decayed!), and his record against the top teams in recent years is abysmal.

I agree that the jury is out on whether Klopp can take them further, but it has long since concluded that Wenger has passed his sell-by date.
