THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Absolutely.

When you see clubs like WBA spending nearly 30M and Crystal Palace 40m plus on a player you know football has moved on and the PL is awash with money which in our case is most certainly not down to the self gratifying economic picture he and the club tries to paint. Arsene Wenger, he knows how to put the CON in eCONomics.

Totally agree with this Mark, i'm thinking back the post, OBG i think, about relative spend on players, when you look at it again it's fairly shocking that over a 25 year period we've spent less than £10M a year on average especially when you take into account the cost of players these days.

You actually have to look beyond the obvious arguments, such as inflation over time, to really see how poorly our transfer arrangements have been in terms of buying in quality rather than selling it on.

Average of £10M over the full period in terms of net spend, even if you discount the first ten years it still only works at at 15M a year, even in 2002 15M was about what it would cost for one good player. Didn't someone say we had on average £30M a year during the stadium build so we were spending half the money available net (I do understand i'm simplifying a complex set of economic figures here btw, before some pedantic barsteward jumps in) :banghead:

Stop press: Gazidis has told Arsenal Supporters Trust representatives that the last six weeks have been a "catalyst for change".

He's on the brink.....

On 5 Live they said he meant that he'd be taking over some of Wenger's jobs in and around the club to free up Wenger to focus purely on football matters and reinventing himself...

it will be typical Arsenal, Wonga gets a new contract, an ex-player to become DOF and a complete puppet for Wonga, Gazidis takes on the tea lady's contract. Huge changes indeed! Wonga HATES change, loves continuity, would he sign if he was TOLD to change? Not a fucking chance, nothing will change!!! :banghead:

The "changes" will be some token change to the structure at the club which simply will not address the issue of Wenger signing shit players, paying shit players a fortune and playing shit players with shit tactics and no backbone.

Don't forgot that despite Gazidis being Wenger's boss (in a normal world), Wenger appointed him. There is still no appetite or guts to sack Wenger.

I really don't know how the club think keeping Wanker at the club will be anything other than a disaster. We're going to finish 6th, lose in the cup semi or final and lose our best players. Nobody decent will come in because even when we finished 2nd, 3rd or 4th, nobody came in and Wanker is truly despised by so many people. If he stays, he'll have to be sacked by October because we'll get even shitter and the atmosphere will get even more poisonous.
