In case you havent heard, with LK out, Walcott is our new captain. I know Wenger has treated the captaincy with disdain, and we go through captains like dogs take shits, but of all the lightweight captains we have had, Walcott wins the prize.

Our club captain is Mertesacker, keeping up tradition of the captain not being in the first team as was the case with Arteta and Vermaelen. Then we have the captain being named to keep them at the club as was the case with Cesc and RVP. Now we have everyone wearing the armband, from Walcott, to Gibbs against Bayern (didnt he almost leave for WBA in the summer?). Its so bad, we got fined for not naming a captain against Man City. And Wenger;s response - he thought it was a joke, laughing as he said he didnt know who the captain was. Before adding 'I have 11 captains'.

Makes me laugh when a couple of times this season Walcott has squared up to opposition players. I don't know how they didn't just laugh at him because he isn't going to scare anyone.

Was gonna post this on the Rocky thread but didn't wanna bring Wenger up on there ... but I've always questioned how necessary it was to sell Rocaslte and seeing that Rocky / Wrighty documentary makes me question it again. Could we not have bought Jensen for £1million and kept him in the squad?

Both Graham and Dein seemed to suggest we couldn't and if that's true then it puts the restrictions they were working under into perspective compared to the restrictions Wenger has had. In contrast to Arsenal having to sell Rocky in 1992, Wenger has been allowed to not only keep crocks like Diaby and Rosicky (and several others), he even extended their lucrative contracts on numerous occasions.

The prick then tells us blatant lies about how he had to sell his best players. Players that coincidently just happened to have told the manager they wanted to go anyway .

And how does it make sense that in this tough financial situation we actually took cut prices on the likes of Fabregas and RVP Makes me sick seeing Wenger sitting there lying through his fucking teeth.

Much as I disagree with it I would still have Usmanov in a heartbeat over Wiggy, he might get things wrong but at least he'd have the drive to get it right eventually, all Wiggy does is sit there counting his dollars and leaves the rest to everyone else.

And to be honest though Wenger is clearly past it as a manager now he does know a lot more about football than chips, stan and the rest of the old farts on the board (bar maybe Ivan).

The fact is we will not get a perfect owner but Usmanov is certainly better than Kroenke. Still I'm sure it won't change anything, in 10 years time we'll be languishing in 6th or 7th under Wiggy and whoever he chooses to replace Wenger in 2019 onwards.

Agree that Usmanov has a more palatable agenda than Kroenke (and is, in best Harry Enfield Brummie accent, "considerably richer"!).
Disagree re Wenger: we are unlikely to attract the calibre of manager to take us forward if that megalomanic is still hanging around like a bad smell. Wexit means Wexit.

Usmanov knows Le fraud is still hugely popular in the football world and is most likely trying to appeal to the masses by saying Wenger should be involved in choosing his successor. He's made similar statements in the past so there should be no surprises here. I very much doubt Wenger would still be here if he was the majority shareholder. Likely he'd run the club in a similar fashion to the way Abramovich runs the chavs and we would've gone through a few managers already.

As for choosing successors, the reality is that Le fraud will be involved as long as the current ownership structure remains in place. You look at Formula 1 as an example and it's taken a complete takeover for them to get rid of Teflon Bernie Ecclestone.

Half a loaf is better than none and I'd do anything to get rid of the fraud even if he personally appointed his successor. It's going to take some time to clear up his mess anyway whether we make the right appointment or not. The more pertinent point is that he must not be allowed to meddle in the new manager's affairs. He would most likely go back to France and continue his rent a quote job.

Yes mate, that was the reason given for selling him ... but it didnt stop Leeds paying £2m for him so how chronic was it at that time I wonder? They say his knee problem meant he could only play one game a week, I would have thought that was worth the gamble personally. And it would have been one game a week more than Diaby, Rosicky, Vermaelen etc. managed for most of their Arsenal careers 15 years or so later

Just seems strange that we couldnt have added Jensen without selling Rocky. I know its a different game now and squads are much bigger but Wenger has had things a lot easier than he makes out.

United, Pool & City are as erratic as us...I can see Wenger getting 4th almost by default. Can you imagine, this will be his greatest achievement since the Invincibles. So many people willing it to happen as well, that is what he has reduced us to. Kroenke & the board see the financial benefits, the fans see the glittering status of CL football, conveniently forgetting the year in and year out humiliations...until next February when the faint stirrings of anger are fanned again only for it to be quickly extinguished in a welter of Wenger excuses as our attention turns once again to getting that coveted 4th place so we can compete in CL in 2019 so that we can..............................................................
