3-0 down against Palace, on the back of some very poor away performances, deserve all the abuse they get IMO.

While I have zero problem with the players getting stick, they are being sent out unprepared, no captain, no tactics, un-motivated, no knowlege of the opposition. Told that 4th place is good enough. Mollycoddled and rewarded for failure. Always excuses at the ready.

No surprise at all they have somewhat given up and dont even realise when they are under-performing.

If he was a shadowy chairman or non exec he can hide, but Wenger cant, he has to do meeja stuff, he has to be at the fore for every match. Hes a cunning wily fox we all know, but his pride will get the better of him, its the same with MPs same with others whos time has come, they eventually get harried out- the will to do it has to be there, which Im not sure is among many fans yet  . Surely if 78% of the 60,000 turned up to march V Leicester he would be shamed into walking? .

Surely you can see that the protests have left a mark, woken the media up , put him significantly on the defensive, allowed the meeja to give him the hardest time since jaqui O, the WBA banner and the Stoke 3 two years ago?
it is just not going to happen.
the maximum for a march so far has been barely 1,000 and the one last week was cancelled due to no one turning up!

As I have said before there is no interest amongst the vast majority of the Emirates match day crowd in forcibly removing Wenger.
If there was then he would have gone years ago! The current people who go seem to be happy enough to watch substandard shit week in week out, and that is what they are going to continue to get. In fact it will gradually get worse and worse.

Look at Newcastle United for what Arsenal could well become - a club with a massive fanbase who last won a few FA Cups in the 1950s, but who still sell out their stadium week in week out. Fast forward on to 2050 and that could well be Arsenal FC...
Rob, I was saying IF 78% turned up he would be gone, of that there is absolutely no doubt. As there isnt he may well not be gone. Its down to us all to do something. As for 2050, I would put it more like 2025 actually. Things will change a lot faster that we are used to I fear

I'm also not too comfortable with hounding the players and I think the "not fit to wear the shirt" chant is over the top. The squad, while not top notch, is currently far less than the sum of it's parts and the blame for that must lie with Wenger. The most maligned part of our team is generally the defence, but people seem to confuse either a lack of ability, or more aptly, a lack of coaching, direction and organisation, with a lack of effort. In my opinion, the boys at the back were trying last night, ffs the fullbacks were up and down the flanks like crazy, but due to a lack of defensive organisation and nous (of which they are of course a part), it all comes apart around them.

Being a defender, especially a centre back, in a Wenger team, must be pure hell. I am convinced that half of the guys we've had play there were better than we came to believe (not Squilacci or Silvestre !!), but I've never seen a team that leaves the centre halves so completely exposed. Wenger's fullbacks have always bombed on in a rash manner, but in his earlier teams, we had midfielders that knew how to cover. Now we have Ramsey, Xhaka, Coq....blimey he's even tried to use Santi and Wilshere, both small, creative players, as was Arteta before them, as holding midfielders !! Consequently, the fullbacks are more advanced than the wingers (still, Theo and Iwobi will provide cover  :D :banghead: ) and the centre mids are camped in the oppositions final third, watching the action as the opposition hit us on the break. The poor old centre halves are left back-peddling and trying to cover the entire back line. They then carry the can for another piss poor defensive display from the team as we concede inevitable goals.

We can talk all we like about professional standards and earning telephone numbers, but the confidence of this side is shot to pieces. I've said before that Wenger lost the players an age ago, not in the usual sense where they are deliberately undermining him to get him the sack...that's the last thing most of them will want.....but in the sense they have no faith or belief in him and his methods / system (such as it is !). They will know as well as us that he is clueless and is floundering miles out of his depth. The Club is a shambles from top to bottom and playing in a car wreck of a situation is nigh on impossible. Their confidence is so shot, that when they concede a goal, you can see them mentally collapsing and any remote pattern to our play disappears and it becomes a panic stricken fiasco.

The fault lies in one place, as it always does with repetitive, identical failure in any sphere.....with the management. Keep the pressure on Wenger and when he is gone, then Kroenke. Players are not a problem if the management is sound. In essence, they are the foot soldiers who look to the Generals to lead them. Unfortunately, our situation is reminiscent of General Haig at the Somme !! :( :(

Very good analysis, which I agree with. I certainly don't agree with the suggestion I've seen by some of the more lukewarm WOBs that we shouldn't protest against Wenger during matches because it might affect our players (it probably won't, and even if it does it's collateral damage.) But like you I do worry that expressing anger against them deflects the focus away from the one who bought them, coached them (or not) and selected them.

I do, whilst as mentioned carry no venom for individuals, vehemently oppose the protest culture that has overlapped into and during gametime.
Steve. I am sure I speak for the majority on here when I say that I genuinely respect Arsenal fans who hold opposing views about Wenger. If you think he is the right man to lead the Club in the next few seasons, fair enough. You are as entitled to your view as I am. I find it difficult to respect people who support Wenger just because he "is" the manager, though. Blind and unconditional loyalty to an individual lays supporters open to being held in absolute contempt, as we have seen. I also find it difficult to take seriously the sudden thirst for unity among his dwindling band of supporters, now they no longer have the numbers to supress dissent through intimidation.

If we don't get our views across inside the stadium the club pretends that the fans are with him. The team - Wenger's team - has underachieved for years, so it is hard to argue that the current toxic atmosphere will make a difference. If those of you who want him to stay want to sing 1AW during the match then that is your right. It is every bit as much our right to call for him to go during the match, when it will carry most weight.
Bob

I have said it here before that I am not supporting him just because he is the manager. I support him because I think he is a good manager and certainly the best we've had in my life time.

I certainly don't think the protests will hasten his leaving and may infact delay it. People have been chanting for him to go for a decade or so after all. I appreciate people feel they should protest and as someone who has protested over various things politically, it is a right that we should not deny. My view, however remains that such things during games have negative effects on the players on the field. I can fully understand the frustration leading to the spontaneity of the 'your not fit to wear the shirt' chants after a display like that which we witnessed last night but I can not understand pre planned protests that are aimed at someone from Arsenal (be it player/manager/kitman/groundsman) during a game. It has happened during games we were winning as well as losing.

I say again, I have no argument against protests outside the ground, to and from the grounds, on forum, in the pub, on the train/tube/walk... I don't agree with the current message trend but wouldn't ever say people shouldn't protest... I just don't, and guess I never will, GET premeditated negative chants/banners during games.

I have argued here before about tactics, reasons football and other although feel that to do so on this particular forum is to paddle up a waterfall.

I ask myself the same question regularly... will I be supporting the team and manager post-Arsene Wenger (whoever that is) at a game 15/20 years from today? and my answer is always 'yes'. (my health/physical ability to attend permitting of course) I think many here would say 'yes'
If you would answer that question in the affirmative then I'd ask a supplementary one... Same question if I'd asked it 15/20 years ago...?

Do you not think that is largely based on sentiment? The cold facts are he has not delivered a title for THIRTEEN years and only managed one champions league final ELEVEN years ago. For many years now we have been out of the champs league and title race by March. We were sold the dream that moving stadiums would allows us to compete with the giants of Europe. Would any of those giants let a manager go that long without delivering?

Whether you agree with protests or not, I really do not see any reason to give him a new contract as there is no evidence that another two seasons would be any different.

To right the players are too comfortable under Wenger, they should be given stick for the sort of performance they put in last night. They have not been taught that it's an honour to play for The Arsenal that's the problem there is a massive divide now between the club and the working class fans.

Protests focusing on anything other than Wenger only serves to dilute the message like the many other distractions. You can blame the players all you want but we've seen several of them come and ago over the years yet the pattern of failure remains the same. Have you really not seen yesterday's performance before over the last 5years but with different personnel? Only one common denominator here and that's Wenger. The players clearly do not trust what he is trying to achieve and are affected by the uncertainty surrounding his future. They are defacto AKBs and we should be applauding them. Targeting them might have the opposite effect and force them to save his job.

You've raised a number of points here, and argued your case well, though I generally disagree.

Firstly, to argue that concerted and overwhelming protests might actually delay his departure is perverse and groundless. At worst, they will have a marginal impact. More likely, if it can be proven beyond reasonable doubt that a majority of paying punters want him out, he will have no refuge.

Secondly, I actually agree with you that the protests should not be aimed directly at the players. I am not proud that they wear our shirt, but they are a reflection of the man who bought them and selects them. They are a team in his image, and to call them out deflects attention from the one who is accountable. If we don't protest during matches, though, the impact is negligible - as I said, it's paying punters they care about......

In answer to your last question: I cannot give an unequivocal guarantee that I will love the club in 15 years time if it carries on ifollowing its current trajectory. I barely recognise it as Arsenal now. I will always treasure the memories of the past 50 years and the club's proud history. But if you are asking whether I give the club as it is today a blank cheque with a guarantee of unconditional love, then my answer is no.

The players when putting in shocking performances are culpable
They are extremely well paid in their profession for performing at the top level
If a singer came on stage and could not sing people would want there money back
Imagine a guy in an office came in and slept all day....so you say dont blame him

This is the time for MEN, LEADERS to put the effort in on the pitch, if they loose so be it....but try....fucking put in an effort

The fans try they are there every week home and away
