THE WENGER THREAD
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
These people outside of us supporters really don't have a clue what this is about.
"Right to win trophies, they expect to win everything" - i have never heard one Arsenal fan say the we must be winning trophies. Only ever have i heard "challenge" which we don't.........................................
This is David Gold in the Standard:-
I don't really think Arsene Wenger is under serious pressure for his job," Gold told Goal. "The man has been there 20 years and everybody knows how he works and I think if he wants to stay that will be that.
"He will stay. The Arsenal fans are a bit like Manchester United's - they believe they have a right to trophies. They expect to win everything so this is very difficult for them.
"I think Arsene Wenger will be OK. He will weather the storm and I don't accept there is some sort of dressing room revolt going on.

You could have all of them on the pitch at the same time and we'd still concede

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Keown etc have all said that Wenger focuses a lot of his work in the final third and aims to play in the opposition half most of the time. It’s a nightmare style for the smaller sides as they don’t have the quality to hurt us. Leicester tried it last season and got hammered 5-2. This is why until we pressed the self-destruct button a few weeks ago with this whole contract saga , teams like Palace hadn’t beaten us for donkey years.Wilson wrote:Watching Juventus, they are so organized and compact. Whenever the didnt have the ball, which was most of the time, you could actually see the shape of the team. They all moved in sync, and pressed the Barcelona player whenever the Barca player received the ball with his back to goal. The more you keep the shape, the less space there is for the other team to exploit. However, when we play, our shape turns to shit too much of the time. Its not uncommon for an opposition player to receive the ball and be in acres of space. Our backline so often never lines up.
We dimply do not deploy tactics. Its Russian roulette - attack attack and leave the rest to chance. With modern technology, modern football clubs and managers have come along way with the tactical side of the game. And its evident in the results - Wenger just cant win in Europe. Not even some of the time. You also see managers like Allardyce, Pulis, regularly get the better of Wenger with inferior players. Then you have better managers like Koeman, who despite never having managed a club bigger than Arsenal with the resources to match, has played Wenger 12 times and won 6, drawn 4 and lost 2. The you have Wenger's record against Mourinho which is infamous.
He is simply a rubbish tactician. He is tactically naive, and doesnt see developments in the game. Throw in poor motivational skills, and he well and truly is a bad manager. If he didnt build up all that goodwill in the first 10 years, he would be managing some bottom half french team.
Against the top sides however it’s a different story and we simply don’t make teams work hard enough for their goals. The philosophy should’ve been changed the moment we stopped having a duopoly with United and the oil clubs emerged. Ferguson altered United’s style over the years to cope with the completion and I saw an interview with Mike Phelan a few weeks ago where he mentioned that Carlos Queros tried to get Fergie to change to a 3-5-2 formation, they had a meeting and decided it wasn’t the way forward. Once of the reasons they got rid of Berbatov was also because Fergie wanted to play a more counter attacking style and needed speed up front. We are the only team in Europe who insist on playing with a luxury number 10 despite the fact that it continually leaves us outnumbered in midfield.
Wenger simply hasn’t grown with the times and I’m afraid lacks imagination and attention to detail. Tactically he’s as inflexible as they come and scouting us before a game is a complete waste of time. 9/10 we will play the same way. On the rare occasion the fraud has changed things, it doesn’t take long for his snowflakes to revert to the familiar and well-rehearsed leaving the shape all over the place. 2-1 loss to City and the way we capitulated in the second half is a prime example.
Whiles I do believe Wenger does tactics contrary to popular belief, he will never be a disciplinarian and you need these qualities to instil discipline in a modern day team with few leaders. Over the years players have taken his leniency to be his weakness. It’s ok not to track back, leave training, play away at the team hotel on the eve of a game etc, you will always get another chance. He pampers them and a lot of them would have a culture shock if we bring in a proper tactician. We are also lagging behind fitness wise.

What a Back 5
Almost pisses over Dixon, Winterburn, Adams, Keown, Bould...
When you add in Seaman versus Almunia, Fabianski you can see Wenger Is God!

I'm not saying that we will get him, but this man would be far and away my first choice.

Don't think it's so much that transfer rumours will appease the fans. Surely anybody who no longer supports him isn't going to get duped by that? Especially seeing as Sanchez and Ozil both look like they're on their way out.LeftfootlegendGooner wrote:I've sadly accepted that he will sign for 2 more years and will probably be announced in June while we are being linked to messi, neymar, lewandowski, griezman etc etc etc.
This will appease a large portion of the fans until by mid august when the trolley dash garners the likes of peter crouch, johnny Evans and lee cattermole, cue the banner holders, cessna's, newly weds etc etc etc![]()
But the silent majority at the home games (in particular) who know he should go but don't think anybody should be allowed to say that and/or assume he won't be arrogant enough to stay on will just bleat out shit like "well he is here for another two years now so we should just accept that and support the team".
