THE WENGER THREAD
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Now he is saying that counter attacking teams should play the brand of sterile possession play we employ and that the authorities should encourage this.
First of all, what is wrong with counter attaching football. It can often take the breath away. Anyone remember our breakaway goal at Elland Road in 2003? Ten seconds from one box to the other. Goal. It will always stay with me. Give me that over boring sideways passing that goes nowhere.
Secondly, a good manager would adapt to the threat he is facing and overcome it. When he is saying the kind of things he does like in the link he just comes across as snobbish and bitter.

So basically, any way of playing that...
A). does not live up to his self-styled idea of what good football is

Or;
B). does not feed into his being successful playing tippy tappy

...is wrong?

Jesus... back in the days when we played attractive exciting attacking football. That goal was simply perfection; the speed of the attack, the inch perfect passes, the finish, the scum not having a scooby how to defend against it, the enormity of the occasion...flash gunner wrote:Anyone remember our first goal at the Scum in 2004? Re: THE WENGER THREAD
That WHL 2004 goal flash mentioned is the one that immediately sprang to my mind. How can a manager who saw his team play exhilarating stuff like that now favour the tedious, sideways metronome shite we play these days?!
Outrageous comments from Wenger ... even by his own deranged standards
His choice / type of football doesnt win the league ... so football has to “rethink the whole process” until it does. How about Wenger changing? Oh no silly me
Can we assume he will back up his comments and hand Man City our cup final place as the dominated possession in the SF ?

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Wenger doesnt really understand the passion of football enough IMO. The aggression and winning mentality side of things is not something he seems to comprehend. At least not anymore. He is not a football man anymore, if he ever was.
The man who arrived in 1996 was different to what he is now. Probably because he was a nobody. When he became something big in the game it wasnt long before he sold his own soul as well as that of the club that gave him his chance.
Nowadays what happens on the pitch is all about ''technical efficiency'' Things like Opta stats dominates his thinking. Cold, soulless and passionless.

I have to say that the lack of passion or pride is one of my biggest gripes. I want him to physically hurt when we lose just like I do. Instead I see him parading a series of excuses and pointless data that means fuck all to anyone when you lose. I can recall him making some comment about Denilson having the best pass success stats of any player in European football. Well frankly if you spend all day passing a ball 5 yards sideways or backwards you will have amazing pass success rates.
I remember that rant by Keegan. I know we look back at it now and laugh but at the time it showed his absolute passion coming to the surface. I want that level of passion from our manager, regardless of who it might be at any given time. I want him to do whatever it takes to win. Winning is what this game is all about, not pointless statistics that show we top every table mentionable except the one that counts.

I love technically good football, but not if it's slow and tedious. The main thing I always loved about the English game more than any other was the blood and guts spirit, the fight, the pace and (contrary to what some purists will have you believe) the ability of the players to play at a good technical level at that pace. Our teams in 98, 02 and 04 epitomised that fast powerful technical football. Our teams since 07 have epitomised some bastardised boring cunty version of Barca-Lite tippy tappy shite.

As a hater of stupid unqualified stats-based arguments, I think that Denilson stat he trotted out was the moment I kinda knew in my heart and soul that Wenger was fucked in the head and had lost it tbh.SPUDMASHER wrote:Clash wrote:Wenger doesnt really understand the passion of football enough IMO. The arrogant, self-satisfied, smug c_nt genuinely believes he's the all-seeing, all-knowing, oracle/messiah of all things football. A supposed 'top manager' who hasn't won the league for 13 years

I'm loathe to get back into the well trodden Kroenke/Board argument again but I have to say I still just find it astonishing that Wenger has not been sacked. What other job could you fail in for so long and not get sacked? Can you imagine the mousers, the chav, the manc filth, citeh or even the ludicrous scum letting a manager go 13 years without winning a PL title? For me, in a way, Wenger is the symptom of the root cause of the problem; greedy, poor and weak leadership at board level dating back to P. Diddy Hollywood and continuing with Kroenke/Gazidis.
A good surgeon would treat the symptoms of course - and also eradicate the root cause.

If we didn't know Wenger as well as we do, I'd call it unbelievable, but it's no surprise at all. The man is a lunatic and an embarrassment in equal measure.
I can't be bothered to take this apart line by line as it deserves, no need as everybody knows what bollocks it is. Suffice to say that he ought to be on the phone to the FA, relinquishing our Cup Final place and giving it to City, who enjoyed more possession than us in the semi, but did fuck all with it and lost. How terribly unfair.
Then again, Bayern had more possession over the two legs and won 10-2, so that must be fine with Arsene. Seem to remember Barca having almost total possession against everyone and cleaning up.....how'd they manage that? Maybe they had the quality of players to play possession football eh?
Wenger's bottom line is that other teams should play in a way that allows us to win and if they refuse to do that, then the football authorities should change the rules to ensure we win. Short of shooting every oppisition player in one of their legs during warm up, I'm not sure what rule change could actually guarantee us victory !!
The old fucker really is as mad as a March hare.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
had written most of the last post I made before going into a meeting. came out, finished it and submitted the post. then read the posts that had been made in the interim and saw that Clash had made the Cup Final point.......great minds eh ?

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
So all those apologists who blatantly made up lies to excuse Wengers incompetence over the years have yet again been exposed.
"His hands are tied"
"Blame the board/Kroenke/Gazidis "(delete as applicable)
"They won't release the funds"
"We can't compete"
All the while it was Wenger and Wenger alone in total control of footballing matters. No-one else.
Now that we see Gazidis making inroads and starting to strip away his power he can't handle it.
“I’m the manager of Arsenal Football Club and as long as I’m manager of Arsenal Football Club, I will decide what happens on the technical front. That’s it.”
So.....AKBs, apologists, #flipfloppers, gullibles and delusionals.........time to admit you were wrong all along. Stand up and be counted. Time to stop making excuses for him and support what's right for the Arsenal. Not Arsene
