Phone them back and tell them today was the day that The Arsenal has finally died. Ask them to check in with the club in a few weeks to find out how many fans are refusing to renew their memberships. Finally you can tell them that this is the day that thousands of Gooners have finally decided to turn their backs on the club, and many will probably never return
Actually you can let them know that WHEN things goes tits up AGAIN next season, that this seasons protests will seem like a teddy bears picnic in comparison - they can expect the grove to be a free for all battlefield next season, and jesus christ himself wont be able to prevent it
I wish that was true Augie, but it won't be. This cup win was absolutely vital for the Club. Losing it wouldn't have seen him gone, but winning it has vindicated his position in his own warped mind, the mind of Kroenke (if not the entire board....who knows?) and most importantly, the minds of the fans.
We need to understand that most don't think like us. There's the lunatic cultists who'll worship him, no matter what, but the vast majority are the apathetic, gutless fence sitters they we always beef about. No doubt many were quietly, but timidly, positioning themselves on our side of the fence over the last few months, but that cup win will have them clambering back over, to give Arsene "another chance".
As said on here earlier today, that this season's protests were totally underwhelming in terms of support, when given the atrocious season we were having. Think back to the vitriol years ago, after the 8-2, the 1-3 to Villa on the opening day and the most poisonous of all, the semi against Wigan, where it was getting seriously nasty. In each case, he smoothes it over and the angst dissipates. Resignation has replaced anger and even in the midst of this year's car wreck of a season, the spite never reached the levels of that Wigan semi.
I'd love you to be right mate, but he's probably bought himself a comfortable ride season, regardless of results, on the back of a "record 7th FA Cup". God knows how many times we'll hear that repeated......John Cross and Martin Keown will be competing to see who can spew it out most often.
