To be honest Bob, I share your views, but I don't think losing the Final would have seen the back of him. What I do think is vital (and I'm repeating myself from earlier posts today), is that losing it would have cast an entirely different complexion on the contract renewal. I doubt it would have been cooked up by Wenger and Kroenke alone and I think that the board members that want change (if there are any !!), would have had some serious input.

Had that input been genuine management restructure, then Wenger may have walked (albeit unlikely), but as it is, he's as confident and as arrogant as he's ever been. The old fucker has no shame and his post-match comments, that if the board are in any doubt, they should watch a re-run of the Final, are appalling when set alongside his pre-match comments that the result of one game would not colour any decisions. Still, as usual, the media don't pull him up on his duplicitous bollocks.

In short, a win or loss would not have altered the decision imo, but the immediate future is badly affected, because it will neuter the Wenger Out protests for quite a while and has pushed fans and media alike back on his side. As he's done before, he's bought himself a significant amount of time.

He confounds us again and again and it wasn't just that we won, but it was the nature of the win, a fabulous performance. Where it came from, God knows, because we've seen nothing like it for years (despite the 3-0 scoreline against Chelsea earlier this season, Saturday's performance was on a different level) and I doubt we'll see one again for years. DB10 used to talk about Wenger being here until 2025 and all joking apart, that is very possible !!!

As you say we will never know if it did but then again the club has been drip feeding the media left right and centre that the outcome didn't matter and any decision would be based on 21years rather than a single game. It probably strengthened their resolve to continue the relationship. You're only as good as your last result in football

I've been winding down my interest this season as I (and every other fucker) knew this would happen.

Pretty much done for me now.

The contract renewal announced tomorrow alongside the yearly financial results.

The deal was done months ago,it was about timing.

Win or lose the final he was staying, win or lose the final he should of gone years ago.

For me Saturday was a brief respite from a horrible season but my attending football days are over I live abroad now and my interest has waned the longer that man has stayed in charge, like many on here I guess

Just feel numb. Kroenke, the board and Wenger have hijacked this club and transformed it into a commercial personality cult.

Wenger has always painted fans who criticise him as emotional and unstable and motivated by poor results rather than the bigger picture. He would've told Kroenke that despite the unrest he's come within a point of the top 4 and has won the super bowl. It has also been widely reported that Stan is in awe of him. Unless we come under the threat of relegation and the players stop playing for him we will see out his new contract and probably sign another one. Usmanov will disappear soon as would the hardcore fanbase. In a few years this shameful exercise in gentrification will be complete.

In all honesty even flirting with relegation wouldn't stop a new contract.

You have a manager who can do what he likes, when he likes and how he likes without any recrimination. Our custodians on the board plus the majority of the fans just stood by and let it happen without a word.

And you can bet there won't be a word of explanation about how this was justified. There won't even be a questioned asked. It will be a shitty statement from the club and that's all. Then, they'll all wonder why the fanbase is still fighting each other and why there are empty seats by next February.

Absolutely all timed and managed rather well by Arsenal PLC...
By delaying his decision until after the season, totally took the steam out of the WOB. Remember him saying get behind the team to get top 4 finish, its all about the team not me...LOL

Final had no bearing whatsoever, it was basically wether Wenger would sign or not, all been verbally agreed months ago

Which comes back to what a cunning wanker he truly is, by his own words it affected the team, and supporters of which he did not care too much, just all managed to soften the blow that he's staying ......

Conclusion being this now is a conniving low life Football Club, with no decency or morals left, Herbert Chapman, Don Howe and Bertie Mee must be spinning in their graves........

I don't know if anyone else here has felt like how I am about to describe (or try to) but I am sad and tired of the disconnect I have felt with my club, a thing that has been a constant in my life from age 8 and up until 2011ish something I have loved unconditionally.

What i and many others suspected would happen has happened, and I completely respect anyone who feels they have to walk away completely, but I can't do it. I have given it serious thought over the last year or so, but I just know I can't do it.

Strangely, I find myself thinking of going to games more next season (work colleagues going more often and the drinking that goes with it has an influence on this!) and just accepting the lot and trying to get my passion back. Call it Stockholm syndrome or whatelse but I want to love Arsenal again and in light of him not goin anywhere for at LEAST 2 years I am going to try to support them in spite of him.

I haven't articulated this well (had a few beers since I heard the news) but I hope you guys can see what I mean. Feels like the guy will outlive all of us and I am not going to continue to let the man single handedly ruin my enjoyment of THE ARSENAL

MyOldMan wrote:I need to say this and go agianst the great majority but it's time for Wenger to go. I'm tired of his stuborn attitude towards transfers and the costant refusal to sort out contracts before the time, for not building on our strongest team. We are always playing catch up replacing players lost and have never truly replaced the defence and midfield of old.

We need change I would love wenger just to get a proper keeper of which we have not had since Seaman. Why does he refuse to buy experience even if it's for a few seasons?

We had the best out of Wenger time for change. Now we need to get a billionare takeover and a new manager. Even if Wenger had the money he would still be getting kids and unknowns. I'm tired of unknowns with potential give me names to get excited about. Not since Bergkamp have a felt that thrill from a signing and excitement that the paying fans deserve.

Thank you Arsene for giving me the best years of Arsenal but it's time for a new beggining. You can only re-build teams a number of times before you start ruining the foundations and I fear that is whats happening to the club we love. :(

Just lock the fuckin thing what's the point of having it for another 2 years?

Everything is just totally depressing. Basically 2 options just go to games to catch up with mates and treat it as a day out or don't bother at all. Really no sense at all in any emotional attachment to a club that don't give a toss about us fans
