As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Had to laugh at club mouthpiece Ornstein saying there is no money for a replacement or no money for major signings despite potentially being in a net spend positive when Chamberlain goes. Where did that £150m go?
If he said it then the club wanted him to say it.
Cracking stuff. This will be an entertaining shit show.
Transfer window: exposing the widely held myths about how clubs sign players
"This is a universal accounting practice called player amortisation, and it is fundamental to how clubs calculate player costs. Rather than recording the entire purchase when it was made, the club will spread the transfer fee over the length of the player’s contract"
Where's Usmanov?, isn't it that time of the season when he spouts on about buying the club and sacking Wenger.
Kronke and Usmanov are both meant to be billionaires, but really are a pair of leaches. How the fuck is there no money for signings.
United, Chelsea and City spend £200m and no one batters an eyelid. We spend £40m and we are bankrupt.
I will be mega pissed off, if Jonny Evans and Fabian Delph rolls up at the emirates tomorrow. I can see Ox, Sanchez and Mustafi going for £100m + and we will get a few dodgy loan deals.

I'm not sure there were many 'myths' busted. Amortisation is depreciation by another name and is standard accounting practice and has no connection to cash movements.

Player armotisation does affect cash movements. Just because we sign a player for £50m doesn't automatically mean it's £50m out of the transfer budget. Likely the amount is armotised over a period in regular payments to the selling club so the intial cost to the club is a fraction of the total financial outlay unless it's a pure cash deal. Depreciation is based tangible assets.
The statement below is taken directly from our financial report. We report player registration and aromatisation on our cash flow statement.
Player registrations:
The costs associated with acquiring players’ registrations or extending their contracts, including agents’ fees, are capitalised and amortised, in equal instalments, over the period of the respective players’ contracts. Where a contract life is renegotiated the unamortised costs, together with the new costs relating to the contract extension, are amortised over the term of the new contract. Where the acquisition of a player registration involves a non-cash consideration, such as an exchange for another player registration, the transaction is accounted for using an estimate of market value for the non-cash consideration. Under the conditions of certain transfer agreements or contract renegotiations, further fees will be payable in the event of the players concerned making a certain number of First Team appearances or on the occurrence of certain other specified future events. Liabilities in respect of these additional fees are accounted for, as provisions, when it becomes probable that the number of appearances will be achieved or the specified future events will occur.
Stan is loving this transfer window, especially as the clock ticks towards midnight and City desparate to push through a deal for Sanchez, it could be a record fee for a player with only 1 year left on his contract.

The club has more liquid cash than any other top club in football, I believe. Two billionaire owners, TV deals, sponsorships, highest ticket revenue on planet earth and they say there is no money for transfers...
No other so called top club would talk about factoring player's wages into the transfer fees, what a load of shite. When was the last time you saw either Manc clubs or Chelsea talk about player amortisation? Laughable.
This whole ''no money available'' reeks of PR guff from the club to deflect away from Wenger's ineptitude.
Riyad Mahrez has left the Algerian squad to finalise a move to an unnamed club..
Manchester City have sent legal and medical representatives to the Chilean squad base to push through the transfer of Alexis Sanchez..Just two of the rumours going around this morning..
