Think we'll win this competition this year
Please do not confuse positivity with stupidity

Do you honestly think we have looked convincing in ANY of our games so far?? I don't.... I don't think we'll win anything because of our defensive situation. Far too many frailties at the back, a midfield lacking discipline & steel and a weak goalkeeper.
Once we get into the knockout stages and we play a more experienced line up we really do have a chance in this competition IMO.

We go into the European Cup every year knowing we cant compete with Barca, Real or even Monaco :? but in this we truly have a chance
I admire your positivity Flash but come on mate.

With our chaotic defence; our indisciplined and borderline useless midfield; our goalkeeper who is at least 5 years past his prime - any well organised opponent will have the field day to end all field days. Sure we can score goals but we will ship them at an alarming rate, once we get amongst the good teams. And don't forget how quickly our precious little babies fall apart, once any pressure is applied.

A club of Arsenal's size, stature, wealth and experience should be able to win the Europa League but the last decade of Wenger's mis-management has left us in the same position as McLaren in Formula 1, the West Indies in test cricket or Holland in International football - i.e. we're always going to be there but we're never going to trouble the ruthless big boys.

Not quite sure we are a bad as McLaren. :)

The West Indies is good though, not going to win the test matches (premier league) but good for a T20 trophy (FA cup).

West Indies cricket is also arguably still suffering the effects of exploitation by a greedy, crooked yank (Stanford) as well.

They're currently winning a flat track bully Test series against Zimbabwe :rubchin:

Just got the results back from the 'clinic', and....... er, well, shit....... It's positive.

Is this the kind of post you were talking about? I can't get involved re: the game, as i haven't been positive about the Arsenal for about 12 years now
I told you not to go anywhere near Gunzablazin and StuartL.

:D
You did, you did. Unfortunately, i'm one of those people who hears but doesn't listen.
Pardon? :D

Agree with that Flash - trouble is, we're a second rate European team. In 20 years of European matches under Wenger, I can only remember a tiny handful of good performances and even these have been followed every time by a naive "turn up and express yourselves" shitfest.

Somewhere between now and May 2018, another horror show awaits from our unbalanced squad and our tactically clueless manager.

Top of my head I can think of four truly great European performances in 21 years of Wenger....Juventus home in 2001 I think.. Inter Milan away 2003, Juventus home in 2006 and Real Madrid away in 2006.. There were a few decent performances...Hardly earth shattering though...Sorry AC Milan away 2008 was a great result..

I was trying to think of our really good European performances under Wenger and came up with pretty much the same list. But (and there's always a but with Wenger) every great one-off performance was followed by an abherration, a "headless chicken" or a "rabbit in the headlights" performance.

Inter away 2003 was followed by the "Rabbit" game at home to Chelsea in the 1/4 final 2nd leg.

The 2006 Final was our defining moment of being unable to cope with pressure.

Milan away 2008 was followed by the headless chickens 4-2 defeat at Anfield, when we were ahead on away goals with 4 minutes remaining.

In 2009 we survived a battering in the 1st leg at Old Trafford, only to play like an under 10s team in the home leg.

The list of awful European performances since 1997 is endless and, as always, there is one common denominator - the bean counter from Alsace.

Quite possible but when youre playing 2nd rate opponents you can get away with these types of displays

The same Red Star that had scored in 45 of their last 46 home matches but looked worse than ordinary against us? This comp is there for the taking and we are capable

Until all the third placed CL teams come in we're the best equipped squad in the tournament. I think we all know what will happen then...

It looks like our first team was in training today. No youngsters in sight.

The first team usually get today off in preparation for the weekend PL game.
Is it likely that Wenger will play all, if not some, of your first team in tomorrow's game? And send the youngsters to City?
