THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I don't know their history Nick so you'll know a lot more about why they are struggling. The relevance for me is that tourists were being offered Jets tickets but the " product " was utter shite and nobody would go a second time.

That has always been the flaw in this master plan started by Dein, Edelman and co. Tourists will only pay top dollar to watch a top team.

Once the old school have gone and the tourists can't be bothered - what's left??

Why would the tourists stop being bothered? While we are around the top of the league, in a swanky sterile stadium they will still come

It doesn't matter if we are around the top of the league...we are around the "top of the league" because the league is top heavy. It does NOT change the fact that we play crap football and a "tourist" might come once, think, Wow that was expensive and thinking about it, the football itself was kinda boring...lets go to Chelsea next time, if there is a next time.

Tourists are not invested in a particular club, they go for the match day "experience", whoever the "big" team is, is mostly irrelevant...and presumably they do not want to be bored to death by tippy tappy football.

If Wenger stays for another 5 years and this irrelevant, going nowhere football continues, eventually even the tourists will stop coming and they will be dropping ticket prices just to get people into the stadium. Perhaps THAT will get Kroenke's attention??

1. We are no longer considered a top team
2. Those tourists would be more likely to opt for better teams like the scum (who will have a new shiny stadium) or the chavs who are actually
challenging for the big prizes.
3. Our ticket prices are far more expensive than other "tourist attractions"
4. Half empty or 3/4 full stadiums with fcuk all atmosphere and total apathy
5. No sanchez + no ozil = no top quality/star players. I am a Gooner for over 40 years and I genuinely cannot think of one player that I would like a
signed jersey from - if Arsenal fans feel that way about the players in the team, can you imagine who "outsiders" would rate them ?

** I should add that when the scum lose their mongoloid striker and cheating ali, the wheels will certainly come off their momentum, but the shiny
new stadium will still have a short lived attraction for the tourists

Fair points lads, but again, ubercunt (but cunning) business people like Kroenke have financial advisors and these people employ marketing scum etc and they will now and in the near future market PL football to the massive Asian and burgeoning Chinese/African markets with all-in packages with tickets for the London Sights, West end shows and nice hotels included. This the optimum tourist fan that these cúnts want and will aggressively market to. They don't give one single fuck if the fan in the seat is a Gooner with decades of loyal support in his family, they want a well behaved, quiet tourist that will come once, spend a fortune in the shop and fuck off back to wherever. With that marketing, and the insane TV money they can easily absorb a few years of low attendances as the match day revenue simply does not compare to the TV money and the money from merchandise and endorsements etc.

Welcome to the future. :suicide:

And whether you like it or not lads, Arsenal are still considered both a "big" and a "top" team by everyone except a minority of our disgruntled fans, a few top level players and a few top level managers. The average Leeds or Bolton fan, the media, the pundits, the average Chinese, or African fan, the average tourist or JCL all consider us a big team.

Don't worry - Brexit is coming and all the foreigners will be banned from coming to the UK.

Seriously though I am not sure that 'model' will work, as others have already said there are other things to do and many other clubs in London, once Spuds and Chavski get their new (or upgraded) stadiums there will be more options for the tourists.

You are correct about the TV money though, this is the main reason the wiggy w*nker bought into Arsenal, he is not stupid, he could see there was massive growth coming here and that is why the c*nt won't let go like a blood-sucking leech.

I am disappointed with Usmanov now, he could really rock the boat by saying more and alligning himself with the fans but he seems to be staying too quiet these days, if this is his attitude I wish he would sell up to someone (other than wiggy).

I wonder how much longer before I cease to give a f*ck what happens?, I certainly don't 'care' as much as I used to.

If we are still such a big club, why are we starting to see such big fluctuations in the attendance?? When we moved to the new stadium, pretty much every game was sold out and full. But since we started the protests, there have been quite a few matches with thousands of empty seats (Leicester, Sunderland, Doncaster, West Ham)

Something is changing, slowly maybe but we are seeing a change in attitudes. Unless the "product" improves it will probably get worse. We are witnessing a slow decline and where it ends - who knows??

You still believe that ? Earlier this year, figures were announced highlighting how many people were either no longer watching the matches on sky or was leaving sky altogether - do you think that sky will continue to pay billions to the premier league if they are losing customers ? Most intelligent people can recognise the reasons why sky are losing customers - for starters they are charging too much (sound familiar ?), but more importantly the product that they are selling is in an enormous decline in quality, and has been so for a number of years now. Why would sky keep paying massive money for a product that is declining in quality and popularity ?
In my opinion the tv deals have peaked and will either level off, or more likely they will slowly decrease - in a mirror scenario of what is happening in our club, the premier league will quickly discover that selling a sub-standard product will generate fcuk all interest in fans/customers/tourists 8)

FFS if he was in it for the money, there are much better options.....already has around £8 BILLION in the bank, his Mrs is involved with Walmart ....money is least of his problems
He likes collecting, unfortunately the mugs at Arsenal let him in, and he will prove nigh on impossible to remove....he will relish any unrest from supporters...

I hope you're right as the PL deserves to go down the pan and so does the wiggy w*nker but I'm not so sure, for some odd reason a lot of people outside the UK seem to love the PL so even if the domestic deals stagnate then the overseas deals will make up for it.

He doesn't have £8BN in the bank - he's worth $8BN but that includes all his assets (inc. Arsenal!), he's in it for the money and I don't know why anyone would think otherwise?.

Unfortunately though he's like one of those arsehole landlords with a load of property that enjoys the rent, he doesn't want to make a fast buck and sell up now he just wants to slowly milk every last bit from the club over the years.

We are doomed, the best thing anyone can do is just stop wasting their money making him richer, leave what is left of the club to the tourists, hopefully they will lose interest and wiggy will be left with an empty corporate bowl when the TV bubble bursts, maybe then he might do everyone a favour and f*ck off.

OK semantics...he is a very rich old man

Still think there are much better options for increasing his considerable wealth than owning a football Club

As for why he bought the Arsenal, suppose just because he could...never really said why only to increase his sports portfolio and leave a legacy to his son...we have the Arsenal board to thank for that...

Yes would love him to fuck off but thats not going to happen, even a double your money offer from Usmanov would not shift him

as for the future you can see Premier league games being played in Asia or America, chasing the money as always

Alan Hudson wrote a book entitled "The working Mans Ballet" come a long way since then

How is he going to make money other than selling his share which he states he has no intention of doing?

As for the premier league bubble bursting, there are rumours that Netflix and Amazon are interested in bidding for packages, so I don't think it will burst quite yet.
