THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

They're not going to name the stadium after him (because they love the Wonga more than the Wanka) but they will 100% name one of the stands after him.

That's only going to leave 3/4 of the ground for me to sit in because there's absolutely no way I'm ever setting foot in his stand

Bill Shankly ... after several years of success, he wins the last of his titles in 1973 .... doesn't seriously challenge for the title again .... would he still be Liverpool manager as late as 1986-87 ? And in those barren years bar a few cups, would he be getting thanked for building the club? Or criticised for holding it back by not allowing someone else to take over ?

Alex Ferguson ... after several PL title and being a treble winner in 1999 .... same thing ... would he be the manager by 2013 having not challenged again for the title ... would it be widely acclaimed that he had earned the right to go when he wanted at such a big club? Would people be saying you have to respect him ... or would he have been sacked or resigned years before getting to 2013?

Matt Busby still Man United manager in 1982 .... still living off the Munich air crash and the 1968 European cup?

==============

All of the above sound ridiculous and are meant to (especially the Shankly one as he died in 1981  8) ) .... but that really is how ridiculous it is that Wenger has been allowed to survive so long on past glories at a big club. A club he most certainly didnt build in the way you could argue Shankly and Busby did.

Of course as a cover for failing on the football side of things, Wenger has tried to elevate himself above being just a football manager. His concern for the kids of Africa and China is most touching

now that the dust is starting to settle I think the best thing about the Wenger "sacking" is that it looks like he is going to fuck off completely out of the club, and not hover in the background.

Absolutely mate, could you imagine the bitter old tyrant staying on and not trying to fuck things up for the new man. Mr "I always act in the best interests of my club" would be sliding the knife in on a weekly basis. He needs to go somewhere far far away from here although I would be happy if he ended up at Everton just because we could laugh at him next season when his managerial prowess is further laid bare for all to see.

I would love to sing the "arsene wenger we want you to stay" when he is at another club - I'm getting a tingling feeling in my ballbag area just thinking about it    :barscarf: :barscarf:

BT shitSport did a camera pan around the packed and flag bedecked Conglomerates Lego Bowl last night. Admittedly it looked great and there was a great atmosphere building. Then Mensa Representative Martin Keown at one point made some comment about the stadium possibly being Wenger's greatest legacy.

And I thought "fucking hell the one thing I hate possibly the most about modern Arsenal is the greatest thing Wenger did.... dragged us from our beautiful iconic home to this soulless corporate bowl...." :censored:

I miss Highbury so much and if there was only one thing I could go back in time and change about the Wenger years it wouldn't even be the trophy drought, it would be the move to the new stadium. :|

Keown's wankfest over Wenger yesterday was disgusting to listen to. What a utter crackhead he is. True warrior on the pitch but now he ain't nothing but Arsenes little lapdog.

But what the fuck. Life is smiling again and I can't even remember when was the last time I was this excited to wait to see what happens during the summer and forthcoming season as well. Happy days.

Remember when he was pictured in his wellies and hard hat on!
Paddy should have shoved him in the concrete foundation before it set!
Where was Phelan from Corrie when you needed him!... 8)
