I THINK WE CAN ALL AGREE THAT THE CURRENT MODERATORS HAVE PROVEN THEMSELVES TO HAVE BEEN A BIT SLACK RECENTLY AND NOT UP TO THE JOB. I THEREFORE PROPOSE THAT MY FORMER OPPONENT, TONY SAUNDERS, RE-APPLY FOR THE POSITION!!
guilty as charged. and it was always intended that we would add moderators as required once the forum became more popular, and it's obviously taken off a bit over recent weeks. so god alone knows what it will be like when we actually get a bit of football happening.
i invited tony to become a moderator because the idea had been raised, he seems pretty savvy technically and it certainly appears that he can find more time to inhabit the forum than yours truly (or indeed the other two original moderators). of course with power comes the responsibility not to abuse, and as a rule, the vast majority of moderation is simply deleting repeat posts, although obviously if things are in danger of getting extremely offensive (generally, this has been an issue where racism has crept up to an unacceptable degree) then editing can occur. think this has only happened a couple of times from memory.
for the most part, banter is banter. the rules of a forum are a lot looser than, for example, stuff we would print in 'The Gooner' itself. it can get pretty offensive - especially when the wind-up merchants get going - but if we can try and stop the abuse becoming over personal, then i hope we can all live with it. if the forum becomes so popular that even tony is struggling to keep on top of things, then i will look at adding further moderators.
