It is all relative though. Given a choice of Vieira or Arteta you would choose Vieira but given a choice of (for example) Ancelotti or Vieira you wouldn't.
Your choice as manager/Arteta Merged thread

Re: Arteta
I would def pick allegri, conte, emery and probably nagelsmann ahead of Vieira, but tbh I would be 50/50 over ancelotti

Re: Arteta
to be honest it is the lack of genuine ambition at the club which concerns me more than who gets the job.
if it is Arteta then what will he be expected to achieve ? I think the feeling will be aim for top 4 but don't worry if you don't make it because no one is expecting too much. His appointment will just be continuing the steady decline of expectations at the club.
Kroenke has stated numerous times that he has no interest in competing for the title - that is unacceptable and the fanbase now needs to unite to force him out - this is the 3rd biggest club in English football history here, not some impoverished mid table side that he wants to turn us into!

Re: Arteta
Are we expecting the club to make the announcement today ? Reports at the weekend suggested that the club were having board meeting today to ratify arteta's appointment, but I dunno if that is true
If he isnt announced today after said board meeting,, does that give hope to those of us that are praying that arteta doesnt get the job ?

There has been a significant change in the betting overnight which suggests this might now actually happen...augie wrote: ↑Mon May 21, 2018 8:56 amAre we expecting the club to make the announcement today ? Re: Arteta
Appointing Arteta is almost like the manager equivalent of signing Sanogo. And what sort of idiot would do that?!
We cannot say with 100% certainty that anyone will succeed or fail because it is the unknown ... but I would say the chances of it working out are less than 10% and for a top club charging top prices, we shouldn't be chancing these sort of odds.
Maybe long term Arteta will prove to be a good manager somewhere but should we really be the club where he gets his audition? Where he learns from all the mistakes he his bound to make?
I also get the feeling our obvious lack of ambition will allow us to be used as some sort of stepping stone by whoever gets the job, should they succeed. This is something Wenger permitted with players in the last two thirds of his reign and I fear it is part of the fabric of the club now thanks to that fraud.

We are the 3rd biggest club in England but rapidly declining and under Kroenke we'll be dropping down that list the longer he hangs around like an unflushed turd on a hot day with the window closed.
It's not Arteta per se, it's what appointing a rookie like that says about the ambition (lack of) of the club, I see in the last few days a few stories have been coming out along the lines of "Arteta makes demands of the board", hmmm.. briefing the press again Ivan?.

I think it is our duty to keep expectations HIGH, don't allow ourselves to just accept mediocrity because it suits the regime, given the mess Wenger has left I think it is unrealistic to expect a title challenge next season, whoever came in, but top 4 should be expected with a title challenge in the next 2-3 seasons a must, if this doesn't happen fans should be firebombing Kroenke's ranch, yeah right, mediocrity here we come!.

Re: Arteta
But he'll want CL qualification at the very least. It's not apparent to most people yet, but the club, and Kroenke, must know that Wenger has taken a wrecking ball to the clubs finances and Kroenke is going to need a manager who can maintain 4th place and keep the sheep happy. Lack of CL and hundreds of empty seats is what did for Wenger, be stupid to think the next guy will get away with it.Gunner Rob wrote: ↑Mon May 21, 2018 8:29 amto be honest it is the lack of genuine ambition at the club which concerns me more than who gets the job.

Re: Your Choice As Manager
Although he's not my preferred choice, I would still actually have Emery over Arteta. I'm just pointing out the fact that he's not that good. The way he let his PSG team capitulate vs Barca will always be a bloat on his record for me.augie wrote: ↑Mon May 21, 2018 7:36 am
For a guy that says that arteta isnt your preferred choice, you sure as shit are putting up a big argument for him to get it![]()

I mean seriously, surely appointing a manager that has won some trophies is preferable to appointing arteta who has never even managed ?
But hey, at least the bloke is an experienced manager who managed some top clubs in Europe and achieved some success, so he would be preferred to Arteta by default.

Re: Your Choice As Manager
No disrespect to any of the views above but this is all such a load of bollocks and so typical of what our once great club has become. Stan you are the biggest cu.nt ever and you are followed closely by Gazidis. There is no fucking argument whatsoever for Arteta to get the job, NONE. Arteta needs to cut his teeth somewhere else and I am fed up to my back teeth with the wanky projects that TOF lumbered us with and even in his absence here we fucking go again - this is just utter bullshit.
Just tell me who out of any of the top clubs would make such an appointment in this day and age. Then add our current predicament to that question and tell me which logical person comes up with Arteta as the answer. Oh yes, I know Arsenal PLC. This is not about Arteta this is 100% about our board being a bunch of fuckwits beyond belief. At the very least we need an experienced pair of hands to steady the ship and as has been pointed out there are plenty of candidates out there who whilst not particularly exciting choices would at least make more sense. Give me strength

Re: Arteta
Verrily tis True, I know we all joke about using that phrase, but when it was announced that wenger was offski, I truly thought that, that was the end of such a thing...and yet the inept and low aims and lack of trophy winning ambition still demnstrated by the club; commencing with the very likely appointment of Arteta...then yet again it IS the Hiope that Kills you/me/every fuckin' Gooner on the planet (*).
