Estadio Deportivo say #Arsenal are showing strong interest in Steven N'Zonzi. He has a €40m release clause. https://t.co/I7K690I2BK
not top top quality but far better than Xhaka,id take him and give him a go

Thats the way I see it too - I know he isnt top quality, but he is still a very, very good player and is ideal for the DM spot that we are desperately weak in. However I didnt realise that he is 30 later this year, and I think 40m is too high for what we would be getting then

I am questioning my own attitude to these transfers now though - I was ok with the signings of the greek centre half at dortmund, and the signing of the 34 year old swiss right back from juve, cos I rationalised it by telling myself that it would allow us to then make a massive investment in the DM position, but n'zonzi doesnt meet that criteria so I am wondering what the plan is going forward :?

I'm not finding much cheer in the majority of transfer rumours at the moment, i was hoping for serious change but now it feels like we're carrying on in the same vein as with AW, older players and 'almost' good enoughs, i know it's early and all can change but most of the players we're linked with are a bit 'meh' in my opinion. :worried:

I feel the emphasis is going to be concentrating on retaining and improving those we have and less about refreshing the team with younger, brighter talent. I guess that's possibly a fallout from where we are currently and our limited budget and also the world cup coming up but after the euphoria of Wengers sacking and some genuine interest when Emery was brought in to replace him i'm beginning to get a sense of foreboding that we've blown our wad in terms of recruiting strong replacements to improve the squad.

We'll just have to wait and see i guess but the amount of click bait out there is shocking, we've been linked with something like 27 players so far and it is incredibly difficult to sieve the wheat from the chaff as they say. I think i preferred the old days where you had some genuine inkling of who the club were courting without all the bullshit rumours from every man and his website, hmm maybe that should go in the 'Modern football bollocks' thread. :rubchin:

People complaining that the players we're linked with aren't exciting need to face the reality of the situation we're in. We're a Europa League side, we won't be attracting A-star calibre players. Wenger left us truly in the shit.

I'm not sure that there is a plan other than grab some decent defenders who offer value for money so we can plug the obvious holes. Then if we can get a keeper and DM then that will be that for just now. I'm sorry but I just can't see how on earth Steven N'Zonzi ends up at our place. When you throw in his age and transfer fee the whole thing is ludicrous. If Mislintat can't come up with a solid DM from somewhere who is at least as good as SN'Z, 5 years younger and half the price then he might has well get on his bike now. We will probably give Elneny a proper run at DM before paying out that kind of money for SN'Z! The rest of the side just needs a good kick up the arse.

I was reading an Anders Limpar article on the lad Forsberg and the superswede was really singing his praises. I don't think it's unfair to expect a bit more from the left than DW offers but it sounds like the guy would cost a few quid. Interesting times again though :barscarf:

I think we're mature and intelligent enough to realise it, however it doesn't mean we have to be so readily accepting of it like some

Make no mistake, sokritas and leichenster (sp  ) are both good signings and will improve us I have no doubt. Maybe they are not the type of headline signings we would like, but we have several needs to fill with a limited transfer kitty, so unless we sell to raise funds we are gonna have to be realistic. As I said earlier, I have no problems with the signings of the two lads listed above, but we need at least one top quality signing if we are to change the culture of the club

Kylian Mbappe. Why not? Even on loan. He speaks very highly of Emery, and PSG aren't allowed to buy him, at the moment, because of FFP. Again, UEFA are investigating their transfer dealings.

No signings have been confirmed yet...

Can he play as a DM ? Would he be any good as a keeper ? If not I dont see why we would do psg a favour for taking a high earner off their hands that we have zero hope of buying, and who doesnt fill a need in the team

In my simple world unless we sign 2 decent centre backs, a DM who hasn't got the pace of a slug and can actually tackle properly, and a keeper who isn't a geriatric reject piece of shit, then I still can't get excited about the new season. If Emery sorts out that in the next couple of weeks fair play to him because a new defence will take time to be coached and worked upon, knowing what Shit for Brains left behind.

Carvellho from Sporting Lisbon could still be an option, he was linked with us for a couple of years and is 26 I think

The Arsenal have made enquiries about Dembele - who’s quick enough to play the gegenpressen.

I just don’t see Ozil staying if that is true - off to united or back to Germany ?

At least one positive about this window - the chavs won’t be bidding up every player as they are handcuffed by the Abramovich thing - no more loans.

We have somehow fortuitously fallen into a situation where we have a class CF who will score goals for fun.

One of the biggest decisions for Emery is whether he thinks Lacazette or Ozil are a better fit alongside Aubameyang. Because we can’t crowbar in both.

Personally I’ve seen little in Lacazette to excite me. The chairmen of Ligue 1 must be crying into their pillows that Wenger won’t be throwing fistfuls of cash at them for the likes of him any more.

I agree that he hasn't shown a lot but as per usual how much of that is down to TOF. He must have something about him if Atletico Madrid originally agreed a deal with Lyon for him which went south because of AM's transfer ban. Unless we could get our money back - pretty unlikely - we might as well give him a fair go for a season and see if Emery can get him going - judge him in May (sorry :D ) and all that.
