The German Szczesny.

Please stop - the guy was virtually an unknown to 99% of Gooners up to couple of months ago, so lets give the guy a chance to show if he is good enough or not, before we throw him under the bus
He was known to people that don't just follow one league...

He will be given a fair shake but replacing an old error prone keeper with a younger error prone keeper doesn't scream progress. Ask the Leverkusen or Bundesliga fans what they think of him.

I do follow more than one league, but the bundesliga wasnt one of them (partially due to not having bt sport).

A 34 year old error prone keeper has no scope for improvement cos his best days are long past - leno is a 26 year old keeper yet to hit his prime, so hopefully he is still improving. This will be his first test playing for a proper big club (which we are regardless of recent seasons), and the challenge will either be the making of him, or the breaking of him
Fair enough, but we do we have another season(s) to waste on a keeper that will cost us numerous points?

I know everyone is buzzing for a new start with a new team, including myself. But people on here are getting carried away. The signings so far have been extremely underwhelming for a club of our perceived stature. The fact that the club think our 2 worst players last season are integral for next season is worrying, one being offered a new contract and pay rise. Even Chelsea were signing top drawer players the season they finished 10th, what's our excuse?

Club should have gone for Alisson. The fact that the bin dippers have all the time in the world to try and sign him is embarrassing, we should have been straight in there.

I agree with most of that (although oblak would be my preferred choice) 8)

Maybe our situation is a bit different than the victims though (and they still wont get alisson if madrid want him) - thanks to the managerial talents of the c.unt we finally got rid of, we have a team in need of major surgery in a few positions. We will not or cannot go out and spend top dollar on marquis signings cos we do not have the resources (or do have them and wont release them). Whether it is the former or the latter is irrelevent to emery and the transfer team cos they can only concentrate on the funds they have at their disposal, and as a result are spending in the price range suited to that budget. They are (hopefully) getting a 26 year old keeper on the rise, and probably a 22 year old DM also on the rise (would prefer a bigger DM if it was up to me). They could go out and aim to strengthen one or two positions every transfer window and spend bigger transfer fee's on individual players, but I think that they know that the club cannot be seen to be a europa league side for 3 seasons in a row, and right now they are trying to do what they can to bridge that gap first and foremost. If that plan proves to be successful this season, then we will probably in a better position to sign those top players - for starters we will receive a cash boost if we make champs league, but also it will be easier to entice top players when we are in that competition, plus they will see a healthier looking team that hopefully no longer needs major surgery.

As I have stated all along, I am reasonable enough to recognise that it will take time to build the team and squad up to challenging for the top trophies. I dont need an overnight turnaround, but do want to see a recognition of what needed fixing, and genuine efforts to fix those needs. These signings may not be top drawer, but they are a reflection of where we are as a club right now, and hopefully with these signings (and proper coaching and tactics), we will soon be back up competing with the big boys again 8)

Right decision to move Jack on, he’s never going to be the player he threatened to be. Injuries have seen to that. Now let’s get ruthless and move some more dross on starting with Mustafi.

Whilst the signing of Leno can be seen as a possible move in the right direction, i dont know enough about him to say if it is or not, i guess it means Ospina is on the way out, but it still worries me that Cech was announced as the #1 Shirt, hopefully that was just a sop to his ego :rubchin:

Ive read at PSG he played 4-3-3 with a front striker, two inverted wingers (very similar to Liverpools use of Firminho, Sane and Saleh). In midfield he normally named Veratti, Rabiot & Motta.

Now you look at him giving Xhaka an extension & the pending signing of Torreira, as well as pursuit of Nzonzi, I get the feeling he wants a 3 man midfield of strength , work ethic & energy.

I believe in Emery has his way, on the first day we will line up

--------------------------Leno----------------------------------

Bellerin--Kosicleny--Papastathopoulos--Monreal

----------Xhaka-------Torreira--------Nzonzi---------------

-----Mkhitaryan-----------------------Lacazette-----------
-------------------------Aubameyang-------------------------

The front three wont be static and will move & rotate. I get the feeling Henrihk will be preferred to Ozil for his work ethic and energy, in fact I think Ozil will be in for a nasty surprise this year. Likewise Ramsey who will also be a casualty of Emery's style. Emery likes direct attacking players & tough midfielders. Ramsey is ill disciplined and gets too far ahead to try & score even though it destroys our shape, whilst Ozil has no engine, pace, or strength - Emery wont stand for that shit

This really is a new dawn. And while I think Ozil and Ramsey will stay at the club, im pretty confident Emery wont let them fuck about on the pitch. Ramsey will get subbed off if he keeps wondering to far forward, & Ozil will be subbed if he doesnt feel like running. This of course never happened before as Wenger has hi favorites who he would never discipline.

I dont think we will win the league, I do think he will make the top 4, and we wont be push overs for anyone. If Man City are going to beat us on the opening day, they are going to have to work for it.

Can’t fault Emery for being honest with him about playing prospects.

To be honest I thought Wilshere flattered to deceive second half of this season. He looked really good when he was playing bits and pieces late 2017, but despite staying fit he hasn’t really built on that and in fact his form probably slumped.

Still take him over Elneny or Xhaka any day of the week and can’t fault the effort he always put in on the pitch but also can’t really make a case for him forming an important part of the squad.

It’s telling that he’s obviously not flooded with offers. Expect him to end up somewhere like Wolves.

Kos is out until christmas so straight away you need to alter the team.

I could be wrong, but I suspect he will always going to sign torreira OR nzonzi, and not both. Ramsey for sure will start having been initially one of the two he intends building the team around  Tbh, and it gives me no pleasure saying this, but I am fully expecting ramsey to be named either as captain or vice captain to kos  I have yet to see anything but a selfish undisciplined player in ramsey, and I do not see him being the right character to lead this team.

Sadly I am expecting ozil to stay AND be in the first 11 - whatever tiny hope we had of him being sold, will totally evaporate if he has a bad world cup. It is fair to say that his support of the turkish pm will have seen the market for his services in germany disappear, cos signing him would be very unpopular UNLESS he has a great world cup. To be honest I am expecting ozil to be the first real test of emery's management - will he have the balls to leave him out of the team if performances or tactics demand it ? Will he have the balls to sell him if he doesnt suit his system ? I will say again that if it were up to me I would sell him asap - my reasons for this are not based on any anti ozil agenda, but more cos I cant see him suiting ANY possible system, plus his sale would bring in funds that could be reinvested elsewhere in the team

Right decision to move Jack on, he’s never going to be the player he threatened to be. Injuries AND UTTER INCOMPETENT MANAGEMENT BY WENGER & OF COURSE THE MEDICAL TEAM WHO MAKE DR CRIPPIN LOOK A BETTER OPTION..(Sorry Rodders Not Shouting, but wnated to highlight another reason Jack never became the player he might have) have seen to that. Now let’s get ruthless and move some more dross on starting with Mustafi.
Get shot of Iwobi & mustafi, cech & ospina asap Please! :?

that's right. he made 38 appearances last season and didn't really impress.

he also hasn't helped himself by being pictured out at nightclubs smoking and drinking.

sadly he was part of the entitled England generation (Walcott too) - once they got a call up they got the big wages and they stopped pushing on.

I wish him well, but you can tell his current worth by the offers - Southampton, Palace and West Ham, not his 110 grand a week.

I am liking the new bloke more and more - he's not afraid to make hard decisions - Jack, Jens, the medical and coaching staff all binned. new blood in.

I just saw this elsewhere. I reckon that's why Jack packed his togs.

strange that The Arsenal haven't confirmed it yet.

its so weird that we are buying people in June. I wasn't sure this was even allowed for us before now. :banghead:

we seem to be closing more business than any of the other top six. :barscarf:
