TRANSFER SPECULATION - WHO ARE WE LINKED WITH?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

With the limited transfer funds we have does anyone want us to spend 5-6mil on a 17year old that won't even play, we've got enough reserve team players

But if "Arsene Knows" then he must have thought he was worth spending 5 mil on and thought it was right to buy he must have thought it was the right move?

well depends how much is in our transfer kitty, i'm sure Arsene knows what he's doing well i hope he does anyway. But i'd like to see some first team improvements before we start signing more reserve players.

He'd be a good signing if we have the money to get some decent players in as well.

According to the gossip column on the BBC website todays Telegraph is reporting Arsenal and Spurs will battle it out for David Villa who has been made available at 17 million. Now I don't really go in for this speculation bollocks, but I just thought that 17 million with Arsenal in teh reckoning didn't sound out of the question. When you compare with the Zarate for 20 million story is could actually have some credibility.

I'm not a huge fan of David Villa, but at least if Arsenal did sign him we would have our big name to get us all excited and begin things moving in the right direction again.

Am doubtful this one will come true, especially at that price.

Arsenal face Milan fight for £20million target
18:19 June, 4, 2008
Arsenal Football Club face stiff competition for one of their top summer targets.

The Gunners are looking to bring Miguel Veloso to the Emirates Stadium in time for the new season, with Arsene Wenger reportedly keeping tabs on the 22-year-old over the past season.

However, the Londoners face still competition for the Sporting Lisbon ace, with reports in Italy suggesting Carlo Ancelotti is preparing a whopping £20million bid for the player.

If the Rossoneri clinch the signing of Veloso it will be a double San Siro blow for Wenger this summer, after losing France international Mathieu Flamini to the Serie A giants last month.

The whole centre back thing has gone very quiet but here's an interesting one: Per Mertesacker (6'6") has said Arsenal is his favourite English club and he wants to join us one day. See http://le-grove.co.uk/2008/06/06/exclus ... -arsenal/. And it's not just Le Grove who say so, it's on the player's own personal website.

Good player, be great if this actually meant something.
