The ONLY World Cup thread (merged)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Absolutely hate Maradona. Wish him ill. Fucking c**t.

Cant get past THAT handball eh buddy ?
Forget that, did you see the twat acting up during the game (and every game) the guys a twat from whatever you standpoint is  I mean he's meant to be one of the elder statesman of the game and there he is drugged the fuck up inciting (and disrespecting) opposition fans by giving them 2 middle fingers :?

The thing that gets me is that he is still considered to be in the discussion for the worlds best ever player - he is proven to be a junkie c.unt and for all we know he was a junkie c.unt all his career. He is a cheating b.stard who should have been banished from the game, yet he is revered as a god  :censored:
Couldn't agree more mate

Dont disagree with you very often Augie but for me there is no discussion as Maradona is head and shoulders (and hand  ) above anyone else who has ever played the game.

When as a boy you are made to take steroids to help you grow (just like Messi) and then cortisone shots because you're getting the shit kicked out of you of you all the time (not like Messi) then it must take its toll. Not defending his recreational drug habits but that doesnt take away from what he did on the pitch and when and where he did it.

Maybe I am being harsh here, but his failed drug test has raised question marks for his whole career - if we think that the drug testing protacol is all over the place now, can you imagine how weak/non existant it would have been then, so he could have been at it for years (inc at mexico 86) and just not been caught. I'm not saying that the guy was cheating (drugs wise) in 86, but the question is forever in my mind and that leads me to question his whole career.
I have to say that if I was an england fan yeah the handball goal would piss me off still, but it would be the other goal that fcuks me off more - how can the guy pick up the ball in midfield and basically stroll past 3 or 4 england players without one tackle worthy of the name ? This is an era when dirty play was not just tolerated but practically encouraged, and yet not one england player hit him/tackled him/tripped him/cut him in half, and that is shocking to this day.

Exactly how I feel every time I see the Giggs "wonder goal " from 1999.

I've learned to live with Maradona ,he got hooked on the ching when he was at Napoli which had a huge effect on his life and by the look of him still has him firmly in its grip.
As someone who used to go through an ounce or two a month of pure gear back in the day, I can spot someone on the gianluca a mile away, his mannerisms ooze addiction.
He used ephedrine to slim down in the world cup and got caught ,but of course it also has performance enhancement potential but in his hayday he was clean I'm sure .
Drugs in football has been around a long time ,I'm convinced the Greek Euro winners were drugged to the gills ,they had some way of masking it for sure .
He's a mad Argy and beleive me they are all bonkers down there ,Ive met loads and they were all bannana's.
He is a man of the people despite his habit of sitting in the VIP seats and I kind have warmed to him over the years .

Maradona was the best player I’ve ever seen and I include Pele in that opinion.

Silly fuckers. Bergkamp is, was, and forever will be, the best player in the history of the game.

I’m too young for the Pele era but Maradona is the best I have seen, followed by Gaza for the brief period he was at his best and now Ronaldo - who I think is better than Messi.

Were not talking about the size of their twats mate  Just that they were some of the best footballing talent, and if any had played for The Arsenal they would be heros.

I would definitely add Dennis and Johan Cruyff to that list though, that huge downfield ball that just landed on Dennises foot V Argentina is the best goal Ive seen (Even beating Newcastles one) Cruyff (RIP :| ) was such a talent. Really shocking that they never won the World Cup during those times, by far the most exciting team for many years.

But they didn't and so remain a bunch of cu.nts :D
