The ONLY World Cup thread (merged)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

First World Cup where none of either Brazil, Germany or Argentina are in the final four.

Deserved win for Belgium. They stood up to the Brazil attacks impressively well and what a save from Courtois at the end.

Great to see the cheating *word censored* that is Neymar on the losing side and out of the world cup.

:D :D :D
Actually Jocko, they always say you remember where you were when England won the World Cup, we nipped over the border into Scotland and as pubs were back in the day, children should be seen but not heard, so the Landlord/Landlady asked me if I would like to watch the football in the living room, I said "way aye ya bugger" so I witnessed history in black and white wiv a bottle of pop and a bag of tattie crisps, wonderful times and just goes to show that not all jocks are caaaants!...

Glad to hear that you were looked after in Jockland on that famous day 2 years before I turned up having missed the party :( The border scots have always been a little more tolerant of 'the english' than the average sweaty (I should declare at this point that I am from Walthamstow mate - the Jock Gooner tag is just a reference to Jockland where I was based for work for a while :D ) So I am English and all for England winning the World cup just as long as the spuds are all off injured and Welbs comes on to score the winner :barscarf:

I won't start on the Scots now as last time I did DB10 called me Jock farage  :D but having had first hand experience of their perpetual ABE campaign let me assure you it would amaze you how anti english the vast majority of them are. My daughter has just returned from visiting her mates up there and was in a pub watching the Colombia match with three Scots mates who all wanted England to lose. No interest in football, all from good families, moderate politics, nice people BUT they fucking hate 'the English' as a collective. I'm back dan sarf now and loving being away from that cesspit of a country - just need to find out how to change my username on here :D :D
Lol, you are impersonating a Jock!
Like myself worked abroad too, US, Ireland's cool, the people are not too bad, nah they are a good craic! Before I get gangbanged by you know who! 8)
Cork Waterford Kilkenny Avoca Bray and parts of Dublin, need to go west coast some time in the not too distant future, perhaps Paddyrama can advise on where to go!...

Nothing that clever I'm afraid - just a really really shit choice of username :D

Good to hear that you had a positive experience of working in other countries. They say travel broadens the mind well there is a nation north of the border that really need to travel a lot more more. You were very close to summing the jocks up when you mentioned Trainspotting and Irn Bru - you just missed off the Proclaimers for the complete set :D

The anti-scottish comments make the anti-english moaning seem somewhat ironic don't you think?

Or have I been listening to too much alannis morrisette?

This is why I really can't get excited about it, that and that against France we would likely lose anyway, is winning the WC worth the endless years of Spuds fans harping on about it?.

Hang on a minute people, there is still a long way to go in this WC and plenty of time for the spuds to get (very badly) injured. The spud that is DA isn't playing worth a shit and spud HK is bound to get chopped by a Swede or some nasty Croat. After that and with Sterling looking pretty clueless Southgate will have no option but to turn to a new strike force for the final of Vardy and Welbs with the latter scoring the winner for the Arsenal in the WC final :D

It may be the general increase in my positiveness about football following AW's departure, or the fact that England won a knock-out round and a penalty shoot out, or the cider, or the Football's Coming Home and Vindaloo I've had on loop, but I'm absolutely buzzing about today's match and even jug-ears can't dampen my spirits.

Two mediocre teams.

Alli, Young, Sterling, Pickford have been woeful.

But .................................. 1-0,
