As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Are footballers restricted from whom they meet in their spare time? There is nothing political about meeting the leader of the country his family originates from, he was on a visit to London as far as I am aware and naturally members of the Turkish community will want to meet Erdogan. The event that Ozil met Erdogan was supposed to be charitable anyway.
Just seems bizarre the way this has been blown up. It's like if an English player of Indian origin meets Nahendra Mohdi before England are due to play India in an international cricket match, would anything be made of that?
I appreciate that Erdogan has a suspect regime, but it seems that a lot of western governments turn a blind eye to this. Why castigate Ozil for this? And what does it have to do with the World Cup?
Mountain out of a molehill imo. Ozil has far more pressing things to deal with like his shocking attitude to Arsenal for much of last season, after getting that big rise.
You are probably right, however this is football fans we are dealing with. If Germany had had a decent world cup nothing would have been said however they didn't so it all "why don't you f**k off and play for Turkey then?". Not saying it is right however it is to be expected.
I would also say meeting and presenting a shirt to a political leader who is seeking re-election and has a suspect human rights record, just before the world cup was not the smartest thing to do.
Yeah football can be fickle as fuck sometimes. With regards to Erdogan, he went to number 10 from memory. I don’t remember there being uproar with Theresa May entertaining someone with a suspect human rights record. Our PM is after all in a better position to protest this, than Ozil.
Again a mix up between politics and sport. As I said previously the meet up was at a charitable event. It’s an issue for number 10 to deal with his human rights record, not Ozils. Slam Theresa May for inviting him to number 10 before Ozil.
I blame Wenger for awarding the lazy turd a massive pay rise and fucking off Sanchez instead!..
If this lazy fucker doesn't get his act together instead of being a disrespectful *word censored* to the nation that gave him more than what Turkey ever did then we should get rid!....
I do not envy our new managers task with this spoilt greedy bratwurst, who is obviously a slice short of a picnic when cosying and sucking up to a dictator who if tried would be guilty of Human Right violations, what a fucking plonker, obviously getting ready to relocate to Turkey the mug!....
And who gave him permission to give this dictator an Arsenal shirt?....Such a disrespectful fucker!..

and presenting Erdogan with an Arsenal shirt, is that the governments fault as well?

So how do you feel about Usmanov being a supporter of a tyrannical dictator? If he bought Kroenke's shares would you take issue with that then?
Quite a statement by Uli Hoeness Although have to admit I laughed at the line that he last won a tackle before the 2014 WC
DB10 will be sending a hit team to sort out Hoeness
The boys are en route as I type.
Tbh I thought it was a great quote and the other one "he's been shit for years" was hilarious off the cuff humour albeit obviously from someone that knows as much about football as Robbie Savage.
I found Hoeness' comments amusing until I remembered the fucking cùnt is a convicted tax fraudster that went to prison. And then got his job back at Bayern afterwards IIRC. One thing you should know about me is I hate crooks criminals tax cheats politicians bankers all the fucking criminals. I pay my taxes and cùnts like Hoeness that are committing fraud should get 20 years no parole.
Went off on one a bit there but tbh Ozil should have known better. What I find hilarious is the entire German team was poor at the WC and if anything Ozil was one of the "better" players in that whilst not being great he still created chances that the German strikers should have finished.
Well done Ozil now lets see you perform like we know you can this coming season
Real Madrid sold him 5 years ago,They won 4 CL's in those 5 years
I'm sorry but that is one of the dumbest arguments I've ever heard.
We didn't manage to win the PL unbeaten until we sold Wright, Petit and Overmars and got rid of the famous back 5 of TA6, Uncle, Dicko, Nutty and Seamo. By your thinking they must have all been shit too huh?

Actually I would and i said many times on here I would prefer neither Kroenke or Usmanov were involved. However as fans, the share ownership is something we have no control over.

Hoeness' napper looks pretty thick so make sure the boys have got the hollow points packed
How much shit has Ozil been getting back in Germany as his statement included the line
"I am German when we win, but I am an immigrant when we lose" Somebody is feeling pretty sorry for themselves.
His agent has called Hoeness a bit of a twat (not his exact words) and apparently the thrust of Ozil's statement was related to increasing racism and discrimination in Germany rather than footie (although he has retired from the national team).
To be fair can you imagine how fucking intolerable it must be to spend a few weeks couped up with the sorts of egos that Muller and Neuer have? They are two of the most insufferable, whinging arrogant pricks around. I reckon if I was in the same WC camp as them I'd have an Instagram breakdown afterwards.
He must have known that his name would be dirt in Germany after this. Having a pop at the media is a surefire way to ensure that they will savage you. Having a bit of a dig at Lotthar Mathaus for good measure only going to compound that. He will never play for Germany again and will get stick every time he plays a German side for the rest of his career.
With that in mind, I think that he has been really brave and fair fucks to him for standing up for himself. I also think that the situation was avoidable and that he would have come off far better if he had accepted that with hindsight he can appreciate why some people might have issues with Erdogan but pointing out the disproportionate reaction and the DfB throwing him under the bus. Instead he has continued to ignore the issue of Erdogan and his atrocious record, shown no insight as to why people have an issue with him and it's easy for the German press to dismiss him as a result. The popularity of his statement in Turkey isn't going to help that.
At the end of the day I really don't give a shit other than how it impacts his performance. I remember being in utter disbelief when we signed him that we had managed to get Mesut Ozil; it was a massive coup and I still think that it was. Wherever you apportion the blame it's been a huge waste of talent and I desperately hope that he can turn the years back under Emery this year.
Theresa Mayhem the remoaner would dance with the devil wiv er tits out to get a deal right now and would entertain anyone right now, Ozil is a multi millionaire with a load of sour grapes, but I do like his quote re when the going is good he is X, a bit like Norman Tebbitts cricket test, ooooohhhh sorry snowflakes!..... ".......
He was absolute class in Madrid like Sanchez was in Barcelona.
I think he'll be back with a vengeance this season and with no pointless friendlies to play he’ll benefit physically.
I hope you are right mate. As much as I rate him as a world class talent I'm the first to admit he is extremely limited in how he can be utilised. We either build a system and style of play that gets the best out of him or we are pissing 350k a week.
Hopefully with Wenger gone we will see a better attitude and less pampering so in turn less sick days. And also hopefully he will be motivated to ram that Hoeness criminal's words down his tax dodging cock inhaling throat.
