It's all about opinions but I can't believe some of the OTT horseshit on here about Seamo. Granted he wasn't perfect, no keeper is, but he was the best keeper I've ever seen in an Arsenal shirt and I include Jenno in that. Certainly 100 times the keeper the fucking German clown was.

But I agree Seamo played way past his best. Even then late in his career he pulled off the best save I've ever seen. Fuck Gordon Banks against Pele - Seamo's miracle one-hander against Sheffield utd was far better. 8)

What next? Wrighty was shit?

Just a few friendly observations recalling some of spunky's finer moments and his unfortunate tendancy to end up arms flailing when it came to free kicks and lob shots from the half way line

Big Pat was better. solid as a rock. I don't remember ever blaming him for a goal.

Seaman was the best shot stopper, but I stick to what I said - he was over confident on free kicks.

Jenno was a great keeper but we got him late in his career and long past his best. He'd slowed down and wasn't as agile by then. Seamo was the best for me. The old back 4 have nothing but good to say about him too - his presence, command of his area, and calming influence on them. And as you say he was also the best shot stopper.

Haha true. Also scum away in 91 season he was immense. They hit the woodwork 2 or 3 times and he saved about 25 sitters. We should have lost that game 27 nil and somehow got out of the sewer with a 0-0 draw.

As far as formations go, what we need to remember is Emery might mix it up based on opposition & whether its a home or away game. With Wenger it was always 4-2-3-1 high pressing & attacking. With emery, at home against a bottom half team, we might play play 4-3-3 and press high up the pitch, although away to either Manchester clubs, 4-5-1 with a deep line with a 3 man midfield of Xhaka, Elneny & Torreira with Welbeck & Miki working hard on the wings.

Wengers away record against the top 6 as well as big European teams in the last 5 years was fucking dog shit. 2 wins out of 21 games and 16 losses in the premier league alone, made worse when you throw in the thrashings by Barcelona & Bayern.

We play 5 league games at Liverpool, Tottenham, United, City, Chelsea. Wenger averages less than 3 points out of 15 in that space, when really, you should be making sure you pick up at least 7-8. Its not just about winning, buy denying the other team points.

And you know what, even if we do lose at these grounds with Emery, one thing that CANNOT happen is a thrashing. The 4-5-6 even 8 goal thrashings should not happen. Dont even blame the players for those defeats, must have been insane going to these grounds with no cover or protection.

Seriously ?? Poor old alexis was going demented when he was the ONLY player pressing under le cock  To play a high pressing game you need players with a high work ethic, and under wenger these guys were on easy street and felt no need to press  :censored:

Much as i am pleased with Emery so far i do feel a note of caution creeping in, i do not feel the defensive frailties have been addressed from what i've seen in pre-season so far and i think the match against Chelsea will tell us much, both team with new managers trying new things may be quite interesting.

I know pre-season doesn't always tell us anything but my mind keeps going back to the comment Emery made early on about rather winning 4-3 than 1-0....... it just seems so Wengeresque in a way :rubchin:

Lets forget about Wenker pressing because that was virtually non-existent but the gist of the rest of your post is correct. Playing wengerball at the other top four teams with our lot over the past seasons could very well be construed as nigh on suicidal or as a certain manc pundit one stated -

“To me it's arrogance. I think it's arrogance. I really do. To think that you are not going to adapt your team, to change to impact on the other teams that you're playing against and their strengths.

It is either naive, or arrogance. Because they keep losing this way. Belief? It is misheld belief."

That quote from Neville was in 2015 about our midfield structure and bang on the money although he was about 3 -5 years behind most our our thinking but at least he said it. Unfortunately he didn't consistently stick the boot in after that as he often defended wenker instead.

Let's hope that Dick is prepared to go away to some grounds with the team looking not to concede and if we can nick a goal then great. As you say picking up a point and denying your opponents points is a part of football that TOF didn't seem to quite grasp. And getting humped the way that the pathetic old twat did better fucking stop now. 2 weeks today and we'll see.

Whether we pressed is not the point, the point is that was the idea. & pressing high up the pitch requires an enormous amount of effort & concentration. There are times when you just need to admit its not viable in certain times & against certain teams & instead drop deep & defend the space rather than press the player .

As stated, Wenger had this stunning arrogance to think his Arsenal teams were above changing their style of play to suit the opposition. So all that Emery needs to do, is understand Fulham at home is not the same as Chelsea away, & if he can do that, we already stand a much better chance of improving on Wenger's away performance against top clubs.

Half the problem with Wenger wasnt technical or tactical, he was just too much of a purist & believer to be rational & practical.
