Re: Unai Emery
Rate his signings. Guendouzi has looked superb, hugely rate Torreira, lichtsteiner on a free is a great bit of business.
Rate his substitutions. Hauling Xhaka off, breaking the unwritten rule about not taking off Ozil.
Don’t rate his decision-making about existing players. Cech, Bellerin, Mustafi, Xhaka and Iwobi shouldn’t be near starting. This isn’t about some wild aspirations about who we should sign, but we have significantly better squad options for each of those.

I'm still confident that we'll start levelling out soon and getting some good results.
I wish he would start Torreira and Leno, though.

Apparently, Carcedo walked onto the pitch at full-time, had a particularly pissed off word in Torreira's ear before he went into the dressing room/

Re: Unai Emery
One of the problems for Emery is the ridiculous PL scheduling. No not the fact that we had to play City and Chelsea first up, but the fact that in the next month we only get to play 2 more PL games.
The PL has such a slow start these days.
My local non league side has already played 5 league games!!
The fact we have and will have so few points for so long will place unnecessary pressure on Emery. Very annoying.

good. though laca should have tracked back when he lost the ball. I would not be surprised to hear later this week that they called them in yesterday to give xhaka, ramsey, laca and mustafi a bollocking. Dick and Carcedo did look mightily fucked off.Arsenal Till I Die wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 10:56 pmApparently, Carcedo walked onto the pitch at full-time, had a particularly pissed off word in Torreira's ear before he went into the dressing room/

that was a class move by Mavro to sit with the away fans rather than watch from a box.

Re: Unai Emery
To paraphrase Strummer/Jones, I think he is saying to the players, 'right, let's give 'em enough rope'. These players need to adapt to his system, he is giving the chance for them to do that. You can't do it? Then in time - maybe very short time - you will be out.
Listening to one of the awful Neville bros the other day - for a Manc he is a decent pundit imo - he said rightly I think, this is three years work for the manager to get back to aiming for any title challenge. Turning the oil tanker and all that, we all knew that Wenger had taken us way down. At least we have aspirations now to play like a proper team again, I am prepared for a long slog.

but he won't be given much money to spend, so yes it will be a very long slog, and ultimately given the riches at the other top teams, it is highly unlikely to lead to anything.Happy Talk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 12:15 pmTo paraphrase Strummer/Jones, I think he is saying to the players, 'right, let's give 'em enough rope'. I agree, that could well be the outcome, ultimately. Really a long-term project now, to get anywhere near.Gunner Rob wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 2:40 pmbut he won't be given much money to spend, so yes it will be a very long slog, and ultimately given the riches at the other top teams, it is highly unlikely to lead to anything.Happy Talk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 12:15 pmTo paraphrase Strummer/Jones, I think he is saying to the players, 'right, let's give 'em enough rope'. Had to engineer a Joe Strummer reference into my first post - would have been the Great Man's birthday today, 66 I believe. Just a shame he was a Chelsea fan!

Joe Strummer was a Gooner, we used to go drinking with him & a few other lads, including Shane from the Pogues, even went out for meals with Joe & company. JS even had a song called "Tony Adams" on his LPHappy Talk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 4:29 pm

I was always under the impression that it was Jones who was a Gooner, and that Strummer was Chelsea - no matter, Top musicAlmunia is a clown wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 11:15 pmJoe Strummer was a Gooner, we used to go drinking with him & a few other lads, including Shane from the Pogues, even went out for meals with Joe & company. Re: Unai Emery
The rumblings from the media are good imo. It shows emery is challenging the players, something they are not used to. The dummy throwing by ramsey and ozil show the luxury that has been afforded them under wenger is gone.
Emery is testing them. Why build a team around a player that might not be at the club by next February? Why build a team around a player who only plays when he wants to? Emery is building for at least two years and hasn't got time to waste on freeloaders.

The great people of Granada named a square in their fair city, "Placeta Joe Strummer".Happy Talk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 4:29 pmI agree, that could well be the outcome, ultimately. Coincidently, yesterday my daughter gave me a London Calling T-shirt, which I'm currently wearing.
Spooky!!!!!!!
